200mm f1.8

Last weekend I rented the 200mm f1.8 from my local lens rental emporium in Maidenhead.

It is like the 85mm f1.2 on steroids. Bokeh to die for.

I must have been 10 to 15m behind the groom when I shot him driving into the dawn here, yet the fairway ahead of him is in lovely soft focus.

Bringing the subject into sharp focus:

It isn't exactly light-weight but it is such a pleasure to use that I was quite happy to lug it around all weekend.

I really want a go with that lens.

The good news is that you can rent it for the weekend for a ton.

The bad news is that if you are anything like me, you'll be wanting to buy the 200mm f2.0 IS for several grand...

I've owned the Canon 70-200mm F/2.8 and that was lovely but also heavy. You certainly get what you pay for with fast telephoto lenses. A lot of lens to worry about htough carrying it about all the time.

The 200 1.8 weighs about twice as much as the 70-200 2.8
