2011-3 cooler?

I have a LGA2011-3 motherboard on which I tried installing a CM Evo 212 but cannot for the life of me mount it - and I am using the 2011 standoffs. The bracket just doesn't span far enough despite CM saying it works on 2011-3 boards too. Am I missing something? What's a suitable alternative 2011-3 fan cooler for £50 tops? Thanks.

If it says it fits socket 2011 (also the same as the newer 2011-3) then you either have missed a step in the installation or are trying to use the wrong part to install it.

On the CM website product page for the 212 Evo, where it states socket fitments both 2011 and 2011-v3 are asterisked:

* Supplied accessories may differ by country or area. Please check with your local distributor for further details.

So I'd check you got everything with it that you should have.

I had a look around and it appears UK versions of the 212 DON'T have the part required for 2011-3 boards. That's a shame, but I got a h100i which I'm using instead.

Seems strange they supplied the LGA 2011 standoffs but the bracket does not fit.

I installed a 212 evo on my 5930k, and, it was fiddly as HELL to install, the instructions are ridiculous. I didn't get mine from OcUK so I can't tell what was in the package, however, the 'documentation' explains explicitely how to install it on 2011's -- even if it's barely readable and misses a few important points.

Anyway, I /wouldn't/ recommend that cooler anyway, as it's base doesn't cover the whole surface of the chip. In fact, I visited this forum to hunt down an alternative!

Are you saying the cooler mating surface is smaller than the heat spreader of the CPU? wow, that's bad.

Yes, it's definitely the case... The 2011's are pretty big, and the 212 Evo was sized for the smaller SB and IB.

I mean the cooler works, I'm still using it, but it can't possibly be as good as another that is sized properly..
