Does anyone know the dates of release for the new 27" iMac?

The keynote states shipping for 21" and 27" starting in November and December respectively, was there a date or even week mentioned? Their website still shows Coming Soon and you can't even check out the spec on offer. Was hoping to get the 27" before Christmas.

2nd Friday of December is most likely according to t'interweb. Just hope it would hurry up either way

Hey Ray

Ive been trawling around looking for the answer to the same question and Ive seen nothing. I originally thought that we would be able to pre-order and spec the machines from now for them to be delivered in December but that's not the case as it seems.

I had a webchat with a member of the Apple Store and they told me that the ordering of the machines will become active once they are available, and not before. They also confirmed that it is still December for the 27" but they have no idea of an actual date.

I mainly want to know the price of the upgrade to a fusion drive!! Anticipation is killing me. I think to do the same upgrade on a mac mini its £200!!

Apple may not begin shipping the new iMac until early 2013, according to the French site MacBidouille. When the new lighter, thinner iMac was introduced three weeks ago, Apple said the 21.5" model would ship by the end of November, with the 27" model shipping by year-end.

Yep rumours are mixing about possibly not seeing the iMac models this side of Christmas :( What a shame :( They really shouldn't announce it for before the holidays unless they're absolutely sure... but apparently it has been due to a welding issue.

LOL - I just can't get over the latest bit of tech from Cupertino is delayed because of something as low tech as welding.*

*Yes, I know it is a very cool type of welding.

Disappointing for me, was hoping this would provide my computering fix whilst waiting for my other systems to make their way over on the boat, looks like now they might arrive before this comes out - bah !

I really need a new computer as my current machine really cant keep up with my new cameras RAW files.

I also heard the news of the delay today and I've immediately been looking at a Mac Mini

The 2.3Ghz i7 Quad, with the Fusion upgrade comes to £780 with edu pricing. Adding in a DGM 27", 16Gb ram upgrade from crucial and a keyb+mouse comes to around £1320 for me.

That happens to be exactly the same price as the base model 27" iMac without any upgrades (so no Fusion, and 8Gb ram only).

It's tempting me a lot as I could have it next week. My three "unknowns" are:

> The 2.3Ghz i7 of the Mac Mini compared to the 2.9Ghz i5 of the iMac. No idea how close they would be on performance; but at a guess I cant imagine it to be much.
> Mac Mini only has Intel 4000 graphics. Im not a gamer so I dont care; but would the iMac GPU categorically help me with Lightroom and Photoshop?
> DGM screen probably wont be as nice as the iMac. But then again there could be a whole bunch of early adopter problems, and my friend's ubber glossy 27" iMac (2009) display is TOO glossy for me!

It baffles me why they announced it at all if they couldn't deliver in a reasonable amount of time. Mac users are used to waiting so a few more weeks wouldn't have hurt.

Nor do I think its likely that the announcement came as a reaction to the competition - Windows 8? So what? I could probably count on one hand the amount of people waiting to pull the trigger on a new PC OR a new iMac.

All they seemed to have achieved is annoying the Mac fans who have been patiently waiting.
