Carl Edwards and Greg Biffle will make up the front row for the Daytona 500.

Duel 1 line-up

Duel 2 line-up

A reminder about how qualifying for the 500 works.

The qualifying procedure is unique for the Daytona 500. Some teams must race their way into the Daytona 500 field. The first row is set by a timed round of qualifying, held one week before the race. The remainder of the field is set by two separate qualifying races, with two-lap overtime if necessary. The top two drivers from the qualifying races that are not in the top 35 in owner points are given spots on the field, and the rest is set by the finishing order of the duels, with guaranteed spots to those in the top 35. The remaining spots, 40 to 43 are filled by top qualifying times of those not already in the field from the qualifying race. If there is a previous NASCAR Champion without a spot, he will get one of those four spots, otherwise, the fourth fastest car is added to the field.

Reminder to anyone who's watching - the first Duel is starting at around 1pm ET today, so 6pm our time.

So, the Duels are done and the line-up for the 500 is set. Barring engine changes and going to backup cars, this is the order they'll start in.

Big shocks? Well, it'll be the first Daytona 500 without a Waltrip in it since '72....that was DW's first one, and Mikey has made every one for the last 25 years. Guess the streak had to end sometime, and I was sort-of expecting it to happen this year, but still....

Trucks are racing tonight, qualifying and then the race back-to-back. If I have the times right this time around, qually starts around 4pm ET and the race around 7pm ET. So 9pm and 12am for us respectively.

Did anybody catch the Trucks qualifying just then?

One of the Speed cameramen caught a Rocket launch from Cape Canaveral and followed it all the way and even saw its different stages of separation.

It was very impressive. :)

Also Danica Patrick is on pole for the Nationwide race tomorrow, with an all Brazilian front row in the Trucks featuring former F1 racer Nelson Piquet JR.

Danica took pole for the Nationwide race. This of course, coming after a crash in the first Duel. And also when drivers like the Busch brothers, Dale Junior, and - oh, how about that - the reigning Cup Champion Tony Stewart failed to turn a faster lap.

Might it be time to acknowledge that she actually can drive a racecar, or are we still being a bunch of misogynistic prats? :)

***edit***

Cheers Mad_Jay, caught me while waiting for my router to re-connect! NPJr right at the pointy end.

Getting ready to go now :) Green flag at 19:52 ET AFAIK.
