2013/14 Pre-season Friendly Thread

I can see him using lads like de Bruyne, Lukaku and Van Winkel like he did with JT, Lamps and Drogba, make them his men, develop loyalty whilst they are young and inspire them.

They are all talents, and that's without looking at Oscar, Hazard and Mata.

Such a talented, youthful squad at Chelsea. Quite jealous.

Overtraining is bad, and maybe that isn't what Moyes meant but it IS what he said. if you want your team to be fitter, giving the same amount of training time, you sacrifice other training for fitness. Overtraining leads to injuries, always has, always will, you can't just train more and it makes your fitness better, it hurts your fitness because you get injured and can't train and end up much less fit than the slow and steady approach.

What people could do is, with the 200mil + budgets, huge wages, actually have their players not smoking and drinking and partying all summer, acting like responsible athletes and simply coming back at the start of preseason much fitter... which then means less training needed to get back to top form and lower chances of injuries. Employ a few (comparitive to players wages) stupidly cheap trainers to keep an eye on the footballers, to travel wherever the player goes on holiday, be somewhere close by for a light training sessions a week.

You can't have a player come back late and just decide to condense 6 weeks of preseason into 3 or 4 weeks... because you want it. You accept the limitations of the human body, if a player comes back late, you simply accept they won't be at peak fitness till a few weeks into the season...

It's quite a transformation from when they won the CL with the 'old guard'. I can't believe just how much they've changed.

Still, matters for little until they win PL again.

They've bought bags of youth the past 3 seasons, a lot went on loan and a few like hazard, Oscar and mata stayed part of the main squad, what it means is they've all had time to play so now they can reap the benefits. It's the way you should be building a squad, well played. They'll be set for years with the odd purchase each summer to cover ageing players and other factors. Defence is solid, but could probably use a little more experienced cover, that's about it in terms of possible 'problems'. And they have the young Courtois to come in who looks talented between the sticks as cover.

Well played as long as things don't go crazy backstage.

Carrick is injured, Clev and Ando both played 90mins not very long ago, so it's understandable.

Moyes has already said he's going to play everyone anyway.

I don't care, it's just further fuel to the retarded opinion that Jones can play in midfield, which he can't, he can't pass, if you can't pass the ball, you have no right being anywhere that requires dictating the movement of the ball.

Oh and he's the footballing equivalent of Easyjet, positionally one of the worst players around, he runs off like a headless chicken leaving massive gaps in the centre which, teams constantly exploit.

He doesn't belong in any champions league team, yet alone one which 'supposedly' are competing with the best.

Interesting to see that it's Rio, not Giggs as captain today.

There were pretty much only two things I didn't want to see from Moyes, playing Jones in CM and shoving Kagawa out wide left. He's done both today. Bah.

I wouldn't panic and read too much into formations and positions, people. It's already been said it's for match fitness and rotating the squad purposes considering the heat/humidity.

Ok.

I don't like Jones in midfield, but I'm not too mad to see that with the amount of games coming up now in a row in tough conditions, that rotation is going to dictate in some places where players can play and for how long.
