2013 - Morba's Cake fed Strongman Log.

Yeah, we have the 180 now so a big jump from the 160 but less than the 195 we have lol.
No one got the 180 yesterday so I'm not far behind the others lol.

160 is my target for summer, so 3 months more training and I'll be repping it and beating my target :)

Oddly I left the gym thinking I could easily give up the strongman stuff. Not getting the 160, being bloody slow on the run (the others were all around or just under 30secs!!) and generally being weak really demotivated me.

Thankfully I have my log and my targets and regardless of feeling bad I can see that I am progressing. I am moving forwards even of its not as fast as i'd like!

Yeah, that is true. It wasn't that hard either, which is what annoyed me most about the 160. I should have been able to grind out 10kg heavier given how well the 150 went lol

Ah well, if things are improving then progression is happening. That's what matters most, when things go backwards with no specific reason I'll really start to be worried :)

I love the attitude of strength sport people.

"FOR ****S SAKE I WANT THAT WEIGHT"

"Sure, but didn't you just PB?"

"YES BUT I WANT MOAR!"

:D

If the 150 was easy there are probably just a few minor tweaks to be made. I'm sure you'll crack it.

Yep, when you don't want more, or faster, or some form of better it's time to give up :D

That's dedicated athletes all-round, I find.

Yup.

Awesome work, Morba - I can just about shift a 170kg barbell that is perfectly balanced. No idea how you lift a stone that's 80kg, let alone 150kg...

Thanks :)

It seriously is something completely different. 150kg barbell is lightweight, but 150 stone, even just to lap it, is a completely different feel to it. It's like it might as well be 250kg in the hands lol.
Then to go from lap, to standing with it and pulling it up high enough to get over the edge of platform is lie nothing else in the whole world of lifting lol.

It's a full body work out on its own :D

Monday push session

axle strict. Plan was to do these off the rack to save us trying to clean it. Wish we had followed that plan as my bicep was hurting and my back wasn't feeling too good. We cleaned from the floor though (ouchy)

thoughts:
We were going to do bench but there were too many of us last night (6 in the unit makes it busy) so did incline log and let the smaller boys do bench. Would have been too much messing around for us all to do bench.

Happy with 90kg 5x5 strict press.

For some reason my brain wouldn't let me full clean 100kg on the axle. I've done it before and 90/95kg went up fine. One of those brain niggles that just wouldn't let me do it lol.

Weds night squats and random crap

Be interesting to see how my knee holds out tonight!

Thoughts:
Squats were nice, had my knee sleeves on from 150kg just to keep it stable.
170 and 180 felt heavy, but it was nice to actually feel like I was working my legs again!

upright rows - did these with a grip that was where it would be when doing an axle clean, to try and strengthen my pull from belly to shoulders. Not a bad idea actually, any help with a continental clean is a good thing!

Good session, quite happy.

You might do better with some heavy clean pulls rather than upright rows.

Load up the axle with something like 10% over your 'regular' max and go through from first to second pull with a regular clean grip.

The alternative is strapping up and going through the same motion with a regular bar where your grip won't be the breaking point. This way you'll get much more power out of the shrug than just upright rowing. You can concentrate on power rather than force, too. :)

Yeah, from a full clean perspective that would make sense, what we were trying to emulate was when you stop the clean on your belly then pull from there.
When I say grip, what i mean is the width that would be normal for when I do the pull from belly to shoulder.

Like that, but without the bounce

That looks like a prime candidate for massive hip drive...

It is, if you can hold it still while driving upwards so that it stays connected.
I can clean 120kg from there upwards, but its awkward, so was just breaking down the pull to add some more strength :)

I wish I had bigger hands, full cleaning the proper axle (95kg) is almost impossible for me yet using the scaffold "axle" I can clean over 100kg lol.

Done.

Thoughts:
Wasn't sure how tonight would go, had horrible crap in my left lat earlier in day and my legs/hips were tired from squats last night.
Lots of triples and a cheeky PB that was ugly and slow.
260 broke the floor but id done too much by now. Never mind :)

A good week of training, a rarity these days!

Overhead day

No like my knees today, think it being significantly colder and my neoprene breaking has not helped.

Log press:
warmups
strict
70x10
70x10
80x5
90x5
95x3
push press
95x5

Log one motions:
90x1
95x1
100x1 - equal PB, so slow!
105x1 - PB, even slower than 100kg but didn't stop so counting it as a PB!

Seated axle press (clean from floor then sit on bench):
40xlots
60x10
80x10
90x5
95x5
100xf - couldnt clean it properly. ffs.
80x9

Standing axle press, strict
70x12

Done

Thoughts: my knees didnt like me and i was going cold quick between sets as there was 7 of us all doing the same thing last night. Was busier than normal and tbh I don't like it.
Happy to get 2 doubles at 115kg on log, my seated press felt weaker than before.

Feeling hungry today so going for a breakfast sub mmmmmm
