Hi,

Recently got a 64 plate ford focus 1.6 tdci 115 model and had it a week with issues just starting.

I'm going to get it looked at, as it's very new but just seeing if anyone else had similar issues.

It sounds like either the brakes are trailing slightly or its the clutch. It only happens from a stand still and taking off, and it's not all the time. It sounds like chewbacca, like metal on metal without any grease between them. Quite difficult to explain.

When reading on some forums, looks like there is a recall on them with clutch slave MC'S.

I drive a 15 plate, same engine but I've got the estate (yes, take the ****). I can't say I've had that issue, but is it all the time or on hill starts at all? Could it be connected to the hill assist misbehaving???

+1 for a possible issue with the hill start thingy, the Scania trucks at work do this "Chewbacca" sound, exactly what it sounds like (!) it's a fault with them but it goes away if you disable the function, I'd get it checked out.

Does it only seem to happen when you are pulling away and there is a vehicle in front and does your car have Active City Stop??

Hasn't done it today, so don't have a clue!

I think it's the brakes if I'm honest as passenger wheel keeps squeling when braking. Probably just a build up of brake dust.

Probably related to the hill assist as you say. Only happens when pulling away, don't think it has any features regarding with cars in front of the vehicle.

Slight screech on take off?
Theres not a recall but there is a tsb on this issue. Any decent ford dealer should be able to sort this.

Thanks for that.

Any proof of this, been looking and couldn't find this issue where all the tsbs are for the different years of focus's?

Haven't phone arnold clarke yet, but Mrs has said it's been worse today, more frequent, so will definitely give them a call tomorrow.

Did a bit of trouble shooting. I've turned Hill assist off and still occurs. Stopped car, foot on the brakes and letting the clutch out slowly. Once the car is underload the noise occurs and is constant till clutch back in. I can't see it being the brakes and hand brake was on and was hard on the brakes, so it's definitely gearbox/clutch issue. GREAT!

Yeah it is. Going to give arnold clark a ring first see what they say. They might send it in for warranty work as Mrs need a curtsey car for work.

Just don't really expect it with a fairly new car.

It may be fairly new but, dependant on what the issue is, you have no idea how the previous owner(s) treated the car...

Very true.

1 previous owner and ex mobility. Can't see it having a bad life but always a possibility. Just hope it gets sorted and they don't fob me off saying it's brake dust built up or something.

When the car was mobility did it have hand controls fitted to your knowledge ?

Have worked on dozens of ex-mobility cars with hand controls, and the clutches get a seriously hard life, people tend to ride them a hell of a lot more than with foot controls.

Knew one car that had three clutches and a flywheel within first couple of years of its life, and less than 15k mileage, just through pure wear and tear no other issues.

Problem is if the controls were fitted and taken off with care you will be hard pressed to tell to be honest, might need to ask the dealer.

I'm not sure if I'm honest.

Found out its definitely the clutch, reversing up the drive didn't use the brakes, just the clutch and the biting point was making the noise.

Car is going in next Wednesday to ford. Leave it with them see what's what.

not sure if they fixed this but when I picked up my 2014 1.6 tdci focus back when the new model came out the 115 1.6 had issues with it loosing power when pulling away. it was a common issue and was fixed via a software update a couple of weeks later.

that was the only issue i had with the car for the 3 years i had it.

Sorry i no longer work for Ford and therefor no longer have access to Ford Etis. There was definitely something via oasis regarding this issue. When i was at my Ford dealer we had a few with this very issue. Just a screech on pull off in first gear.
