2015 Spring/Summer Biking Plans

577 miles in a day is averaging 60 mile an hour, if you're riding for 10 hours. Now, if half the journey is motorway then maybe... but you'd have to be going at a decent pace all day long on twisty roads to make that. 2 days, much better :D

If you're fed up of the coast by the time you get to Aberystwyth, head for Devils bridge and Rhyader taking in the Elan Valley. You'll miss Newquay and Pembroke though with some equally beautiful scenery.

Llangollen is a nice place to stay and perfect for heading to the Ponderosa and Snowdonia first thing.

The letchworth slate mine is a good visit, the roads around it

Cheers for the tips. Already looking forward to it! Roll on April.

Personally am planning on getting a few more track days in this year, didn't manage many last year.

My uncles just bought a bike over here (he lives in Greece), so am tempted to ride it down to him, spend a fortnight there & then fly back

The South,West, East, Northern points all in day this year. (That is if some dozy cow doesnt cut me up on a roundabout and breaks my collarbone again)

So, a step forward today. We booked our ferries - Portsmouth to Caen and then Bilbao to Portsmouth - and have booked our hotels for the route, in Cognac, Argeles-Gazost, Pamplona and Bilbao. The current route (too complex for Google Maps to link) is 1,850 miles, excluding ferries but including going from and to Ipswich at either end. We're not aiming for hostels or camping standards, but have still managed to average just over £50 a night for accommodation. Parking will be extra in some places though, notably in Spain as our hotels are in relatively cramped old town locations.

Fingers crossed that the snow in the Pyrenees recedes fairly early this year! Planning an entertaining all day route from Pamplona to Bilbao has been fun, and has just gone to show how many good rides there are in that area, especially west of Bilbao. The proof of the pudding is in the eating, but given more time next year I can see us going direct from Portsmouth to Bilbao and making the most of those roads before heading straight back on the return ferry. I'm still looking forward to a good experience riding down through France though, especially cutting in to hit the Atlantic coast near the end before heading to Argeles along the foot of the Pyrenees.

We've set our route for the Pyrenees in April. It has already changed many times, and I'm sure it will change again before we go and almost certainly the night before we cross the Pyrenees if there's still a lot of snow around.

This is how it looks now. Two days of less fun riding to get to the mountains and then two days of lots of fun actually in them. I'll start a new thread nearer the time, and hopefully post a few updates along the way.
