Looking at the cost of life at this moment, what would you consider to be a decent wage range? Looking at how prices of everything are going up drastically, the wages aren't really catching up and the gap just gets bigger every year?

I'm not asking about anyone's earnings, just curios to see what people consider to be a decent wage to live comfortably (New 911 GT3 RS in the garage, isn't what I mean though :p).

Edit:

Just a quick example

You're single with no kids or partner, want your own place, car, be able to go on holiday at least 1-2 a year and be able to have savings in your account. Outside of London

After overtime I got £23k last year and just about manage to be comfortable. No savings though. So that is liveable, at least where I live, with the odd treat (take-away a week, chippy on a Friday at work)

That's the thing, lets just go by the old values what my grandparents would consider as comfortable: Your own apartment/house, car, 1-2 holidays a year and to be able to save in the mean time.

I'm guessing 30-35k annual?

The problem is we all live to our means. If you earn more you spend more, that's life. Therefore you can survive in London on £20k but you could speak to someone on £50k who thinks they live a moderately frugal lifestyle and doesn't feel that financially comfortable. I'd say outside of London if you're struggling on anything more than £30k you're doing something wrong, and in London you probably need £45k to start to feel comfortable. Depends very much on whether you houseshare, live with a partner, rent/own etc.

Too many variables to say really...

This is definitely going to vary a lot dependent on; where you live, whether you rent or own a property, if you have any kids to support etc.

Massively depends on your circumstances really, i.e. where you live, if you have kids etc.

This, you could, for example, have had a home handed over to you and get by on far less a month than someone else, or not have 2 nice cars to finance.

In my area, I've seen people get by fine on 18k and have a happy existence and others on 30k+ who are always stressed about their finances and chasing more of it.

Ok...

Pushing towards 30k imo for that lifestyle under those variables.

Chasing specific figures and believing it will give you what you want isn't always the best way to go about it, you can get that working in a factory with a little bit of overtime.

Finding an area of interest where there's a realistic chance of developing a set of marketable skills should eventually get you there anyway.

What about London? Single, no car, no holidays?
I've a few friends who just got out of Uni and are on the national minimum wage and they somehow manage. I wouldn't call that decent or comfortable though, they mostly do 12 hour shifts 5-6 days a week...

Depends on where you live. Transport costs etc. Food wise you can technically live on very little but won't help your health in long run. Just a shame on kids if they have to go into school with little.

Got a job offer of arround ~30-35k in London and was wondering if I could live in zone 1-2 by my own.

I'm 21 this year and have no clue what I want to do as a career, the only thing I find my way round is IT and as a time killer I play around in Sony Vegas/After Effects and Photoshop. I helped one of my mates with his uni project, I sorted the sound for him.

I finished college with L3 with pass grades like everyone else in my class, but that's because one of our tutors had an affair with a student so got kicked, other left at the beginning as he got a job offer in the states (not cool from him, but he knew his stuff) and our main tutor had a really bad car accident. So we were left, with a chavy tutor from college that had security and metal detectors at the front (we searched him up :p). The plan was to go to Uni, but after seeing what the teaching is like. I didn't bother, wouldn't want to end up in a debt with no qualifications. :p

I should have done an apprenticeship, college was a waste of time and nerves. I haven't learnt a thing and it seems the only qualifications that are worth something is the Microsoft certificate and Cisco CCNA. :o
