2019/2020 seems like the biggest overall laptop tech leap in some time...

Coming later this year and earlier next year to a notebook near you we have...
  1. Intel Ice Lake 10nm with Gen11 Iris pro (20% faster CPU and 2x faster GPU than Intel 8th gen with HDR and support for multiple high-res displays etc) https://www.theverge.com/2019/2/21/18232026/wi-fi-6-speed-explained5 faster than 80-router-wifi-how-does-work
  2. WiFi6 (40% faster than 802.11ac for a single device but 3x the overall bandwidth for multiple devices) https://www.howtogeek.com/368332/wi-fi-6-what’s-different-and-why-it-matters/
  3. OLED laptop screens (FINALLY they will be 'mainstream')... this is for me a HUGE deal https://www.oled-info.com/oled-devices/laptops
  4. New lower power NV and AMD GPU's giving comparatively better performance than Pascal per watt https://www.zdnet.com/article/nvidi...nd-1650-turing-based-gpus-for-gaming-laptops/
  5. HDMI 2.1 that will arrive later in the year https://www.digitaltrends.com/home-theater/hdmi-explained-everything-you-need-to-know-news-specs/
  6. Dual screens (or should I say pseudo-screens) which are currently going through an experimental and maturing phase where they figure out how to make them as useful as they can be, but will soon likely find a good balance of practicality in various designs in 2020 (the following link is just an example of one company ASUS who are really pushing with this) https://www.engadget.com/2019/05/27...pbprvzCg3pv7vjCiQC0pxGrDOQS88QS1-d-t7hyRv3ydx
If you add all of those up it amounts to an exciting 2019 and 2020 for people looking at buying a new laptop, and for me at least the OLED screens are going to be absolutely essential for getting the most out of 'on the go' photo editing, gaming and movie watching. I am not overly worried about burn-in, either.

Either way my next laptop purchases in 2019/2020 will very likely be:
  • A long-battery life 13" ultraportable with OLED and Ice Lake as soon as a good one is available.
  • A 15" gaming notebook with OLED screen
I am very dissappointed that the new Dell XPS 2-in-1 convertible won't have an OLED screen but maybe 15" screens are easier to produce at the moment.

Good times are coming. :)

I’d like to see what Zen 2 can do in the mobile space. Not heard much about this though.

OLED is interesting but burn in is a worry with a lot of static content on PC.

WiFi 6 doesn’t really offer anything material to me. My internet is my limiting factor. AC is plenty fast for network backups.

HDMI 2.1 also offers little to me, prefer to see a wireless solution. Can’t remember the last time I wanted to connect my laptop to my TV.

Dual screens are still in the novelty phase. Seem to be looking for a use case currently.

I think adding to your list:

Laptop manufacturers have started using socketed chips again for their high end laptops. At present up to the desktop I9-9900K in a laptop.

(OK, Clevo has been doing this for years but it's good to see the industry try and catch up).
