My ears had finally had enough, £3279 for the 48GB 16c CPU / 40c GPU 16 M4 Max MBP so pulled the trigger. It's due this afternoon, what's the first thing I should install on it after ghostty and raycast?

What do you use your computer for mainly? For me I always install Discord and WhatsApp. Also install Homebrew. The other stuff I install is more specialised.

Software developer - steadfastly ignoring the Apple Silicon hype for years as an intel diehard. Use a wide gamut of software dev tools from xcode, to jetbrains, vscode, zed etc. No gaming on this though would be nice to be able to run some older titles which even with the discrete amd on this imbp run like molasses.

Discord takes about 20s to start up now...

Looking forward to not accidentally hitting the touchbar ever again!!

Orbstack, rectangle, and raycast was the answer. I really wish I could have the last 12 months back, as this machine is an utter dream. How/why I stuck it out on that intel honestly should be diagnosed by a professional. The hype around apple silicon / the m4 particularly is definitely merited.
