2020/21 GPU Strategy (New Build)

I've been researching my first CPU build for about 8 months. My goal is to maximise the performance of my LG27GL850 Monitor. So ideally QHD level gaming at a high FPS. Like many others I've been keen for the Zen 3 CPUs and the new GPUs (30XX and AMD 6***).

So I've landed on a dream build of an Mini-ITX with a Ryzen 5 5600X and an RTX 3070/AMD 6800. Dream build because it doesn't seem to exist in 2020.

I assume these parts won't be available for some time, does anyone have insight on this? By this I mean are we looking at 3 months, 6 months, 12 months, more than that?

Assuming these parts are 6 months or more away, I am thinking of pushing ahead with a Ryzen 5 3XXX build and some kind of GPU. Is it a good idea to buy a cheap GPU then sell this when the new GPUs come along? If so any GPUs someone could recommend as a stock gap? Or should I suck it up and buy a RTX 2XXX which I've been avoiding given price/performance (especially with current availability)? Any comments on second hand?

Any help is really appreciated.

Hopefuly 3 months for most of the kit to appear in bulk and the scalpers give up screwing people over :(

Cheap second hand gpu are not really a thing at the moment due to the extreme shortage of all gpu. Dont buy the 2xxx series unless you find one second hand and then not more than a 2060/2070/super or even a rx5700/xt. All are superb 1440p cards.

Thanks @dfour . I just got confirmation of my 3060ti shipping so good luck on my end. I still think this is relevant though due to GPU shortages so appreciate the wisdom.

I would think the best way around this would be to get a card second hand as you've suggested. Hopefully there is a way that is accessible to new builder to get their hands on them. Unfortunately it seems to be only available to members.

Looking online, it seems the 5600x is becoming a bit more available now. Other retailers have reported getting 300+ in this week, with another 2k or so due by end of month. Would go nicely alongside the 3060ti you seem to have secured.

Assume you've looked or sorted out case/psu, they're also both in short supply currently. Not a good time to be building unless you get lucky with stock drops, really.
