2020 Omen 17 hitting 100 degrees CPU whilst gaming

I've got a 2020 Omen (17-cb1005na) with i9-10885h, 32Gb DDR4 and an RTX 2080 Super. I usually have it closed under the desk on a small shelf (which takes up about the middle third of the laptop with 1/3 of either end hanging over either edge), connected to a widescreen monitor.
I've started playing Red Dead 2 for the first time and noticed after a little while the FPS drops dramatically to less than 10 frames a sec. Whilst there are known issues with RDR2 and FPS, when I checked my Omen hub my CPU temp was 98/99/100. Think the GPU was also high 80s low 90s. When I opened the laptop the area above the top of the keyboard was almost too hot to touch, certainly couldn't keep your hand on it for more than a few seconds.
There are no fans topside so it isn't as if keeping it closed has prevented cooling. Had it open for about 10 minutes now and it's made no difference to the CPU temp.

Now I'm guessing CPU@100 degrees is a problem and could be leading to the significant performance drops I'm seeing? Has anyone else had this, should I be raising with HP support? It's got a 3 year warranty on it.
Thanks all

I have the same as you, the CPU does indeed get a little toasty and this cpu does have a 100C rating , my GPU rarely gets above 75C after hours of gaming. I normally run on max performance and ramp fans up to max manually in the omen gaming hub if gaming for more than half a hour but normally mostly just leave on default for less intensive gaming. I would suggest getting a cooling mat stand and leaving the lid open also. If no joy probably needs a thermal repaste.
