Just read a news report regarding the 2021 Oscars, and was somewhat surprised that in a year without a massive amount of new releases I had not heard of any of the films which won oscars with the exception of Soul.

Have the others actually been released?

Whoops

Everyone thought Chadwick Boseman would win the Best Actor award, even the producers of the Oscars, who changed the order of events so that Best Actor would be the last announcement – not Best Picture, which has always previously been the case. Had Boseman won for his performance in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, it surely would have been a cathartic, emotional end to the ceremony, which, for the most part, was relatively drama-free. But then Anthony Hopkins won and the British actor was not in attendance to receive the award, meaning the ceremony ended with a slightly awkward Joaquin Phoenix just... standing there.

I haven't seen it yet but I would have much preferred Riz Ahmed to win for SoM. Seems harsh to overlook someone like Boseman or Ahmed for an old fogey who's won plenty of awards and is already up there considered as one of the greats.

Just seen the In Memoriam section...

Wow! They zipped through that... Many actors at the front end only had a second or two, whereas the executives and casting directors got a drawn out image. Hmmm.... Oh, and the song choice? Not sure you're meant to want to dance at a memorial?

So, who did it better?

The Academy

Or:

Turner Classic Movies?
