She is well chuffed. But it's on to her Advanced Highers next year. Of more immediate concern are university applications. We're hoping that with straight As she'll get unconditional offers from serious universities which will reduce the stress.
And proper A grades as well, none of that covid "participation" A grades
I'm not sure if the situation is still the same, but certainly when I went to university Higher grades were sufficient to go to university (in Scotland anyway since the 1st year is an overlap of 6th year at School) as they weren't particularly interested in Advanced Highers (or SYS in my day).
That's not the case these days, unfortunately, particularly with the better universities. Hopefully with straight As she may get a pass; my nephew was rejected by his first choice, St Andrews.
Yes, St Andrews reserved either 40% or 60% of the places (I forget which way around it was) on his course for foreign students.
Yes, actually, we do. Scottish pupils take fewer National 5s than English pupils take GCSEs. Scottish Advanced Highers aren't quite the same standard as A levels. In particular they do not teach STEM subjects to the standard that Oxford & Cambridge demand. And whereas English universities tend to go for 3 year courses, Scottish ones tend to go for 4 year courses because they start at a lower point; my nephew's Physics degree is 5 years.
