2023 Track Day Thread

Is that auto solo stuff or actual sprint events?
I'm taking things one step at a time at the moment. Get car track prepped then I need some track time under my belt before considering budget anyways to be honest.

I do the Javelin Sprint Series (been doing it since was a Toyota only series in 2008) They are sprints but they aren’t governed by MSUK. Events are run by Javelin Trackdays who set their own, fairly open, technical regs (no deciphering of the blue book required) and the events are licensed by the IOPD (Just a small one of payment for either an annual or single event licence as appropriate).

If you just need seat time then trackdays are better value but personally I get bored on a trackday lapping with no purpose and really enjoy the competitive element that sprinting brings with it.

I'm planning on Llandow in Feb with Engine Tuner. They're offering a club of sorts for track days etc.

Depends on the weather though as Impreza isn't undersealed and Evo will be in bits (again) :)

Impreza will have Alcons on after I completely cooked the OE brakes at Castle Coombe :D

Awesome sauce - I'll check out ETs social media for the details and post back if I book on! Thanks dude.

I did the Subaru Sprint Series back in 2013 (?) and have been meaning to get on a Javelin one. Honestly those sprint days were some of the best track time I've had as you get quicker throughout the day. I only wished for more runs, but that's the nature of the events!

Yeah, no motor racing is 'cheap', I'm fully prepared for the heart attack looking at the bills. :p
We went to watch a guy I know that does 750 mx5. I know he's spent quite a bit of money on that then had a big crash at T2 before we even saw him on track!

But it's so much fun, it's like an addictive drug! I spent on average £1300 a meeting this year, that's without tyres, pads, damage etc.

No real plans for any trackdays next year, but will be heading back out to the Nurburgring for a week in June sometime. Just waiting for the Touristenfahrten calendar to be published so I can check dates and get the ferry booked

Will be looking to do the ring in the MG ZS 180 next year (just on a tourist day), and at least 1 uk trackday. Weighing up either Anglesey/Donington/Cadwell.

Just got a clean MOT sheet on it despite its 20 years of age and 165k miles!

Performed well at Brands at the end of the year after we put new brakes and tyres on the car. Managed to put 4k miles on it with various trips last year.

I'd like to do Thruxton, the only issue might be the noise limit at 90dB, that I usually get ~85-87dB but I need to replace the manifold which might increase it, shouldn't increase it much though surely?

Probably end up doing 1-2 at Castle Combe as it's the local, I'd like to do one at Cadwell Park having only ever done that with bikes, maybe Llandow as it's pretty close and likely to be on the sprint calendar.

On that latter point my main car aim this year is to actually do all 8 events of the Bristol Two-Litre Cup sprint/hillclimb calendar.

As others have said Sprinting (and hillclimbs) are great fun and also a good chunk cheaper than racing :-p

Does anyone know what dates the Nurburgring is open in May next year for a track day. I did a bit of Googling and couldn’t find much information.

Not sure it counts as a track day but I've booked Phil Price Rally School for my Dad and me. I've been wanting to go for the last couple of years but then covid happened and put a halt on things.

Track day wise... I wouldn't mind getting the MX5 booked in for a couple of sessions around Three Sisters in Wigan (my closest circuit) and I'd love to get the Impreza across to Anglesey, however until I change its exhaust I have absolutely no hope of getting it under the noise limits.

Anglesey and noise limits don’t really exist…unless it’s ridiculously loud. I’ve never seen anyone flagged for noise there as the circuit is right on the coast with nothing else near it!

You’ll enjoy the rally school, I did it a few years ago and it’s a great day out, definitely different to driving on tarmac!

Done Phil Price loads and a great day out had every time. Not done it since Phil passed away but sure it's still a great day out.

I did Bedford last year. Want to do Bedford, goodwood(very expensive? Why!) and brands this year. S2000 is ready for some for sure. Big semi slicks etc.
