2024 Summer F1 Break thread!

Thought it might be worth having a Summer Break thread to keep us occupied for the next few weeks instead of just filling up the Belgian Grand Prix one!

Expecting a lot of driver movement to be announced/confirmed during this break; surely the sacking of Sergio Perez and the return of Lawson to the grid.

Sainz confirmed somewhere (seems likely to be Williams at this point), hopefully this will free up other teams like Alpine to confirm their driver line up for 2025 with possible drives for Doohan or Schumacher there.

Feels like this is a long break at four weeks. Isn’t it normally three?

I think its been 4x for the last couple of years but I certainly remember it only being 3 before

Seems a decent move, probably positioned well for 2026 as well if a bigger team comes calling.
Hopefully we'll see other teams start to confirm their empty seats for '25 now

What will be Perez be driving in 4 weeks time? A Red Bull or a bus in Mexico City?

Probably an Indycar of some colour

But didn't he also claim something like this earlier in the year "I did not have sexual relations with that woman."

I'm not getting into that to be honest; anyway despite all the rumour, etc Perez has been confirmed as staying for the rest of 2024

As I said, I honestly don't give a toss about Christian Horner, I was writing about Perez.
Its all over the F1 media, its not a throwaway remark that Christian Horner has made to someone.

Sainz didn’t have a choice though did he? I thought McLaren bought Ricciardo in to replace him?

Sainz chose to go to Ferrari first; McLaren then signed Ricciardo to replace him; albeit I think it was all but announced the same day

Sounds like Doohan is close to being confirmed as Alpine's number 2, I honestly think there are better choices out there but its probably a symptom of where they are as a team.
Frankly I'd have preferred to see Mick Schumacher given a second chance but I think that's it for his F1 career barring Sauber/Audi who were rumoured to be considering him.

Hard to disagree with Barrichello, Alesi or Kubica - I'd have like to see Schumacher explode if Irvine had taken the title in 1999 for Ferrari's first title since '79!

I thought the next GP was at the weekend just gone, was really disappointed when I realised it wasn't.

Still, not long now until the racing starts again.

I watched the Indycar on Sat night thinking it would be a replacement, it wasn't - roll on the race next weekend!

I liked Swerve, really wanted him to win in 1999.

I really wanted DC to win the title that year (until he binned it at Nurburg) and then I remember watching Ferrari with 3 wheels in the pits for Irvine, that really cost him!
