2025/26 Preseason Thread

18 minutes into Man United and Leeds and it's remarkably like watching us from last season. ie ponderous, lacking ideas and easily pressed playing out. Oh dear!

Half Time
Leeds living up to their "dirty" monicker. No-one has really been able to exert much control in the game. Lots of niggly fouls and quite a lenient ref. Cunha has looked decent but in a direct attacking sense but also as a player capable of making good passes. Amad a few flashes but he's been kicked every time he gets near the ball. Diego Leon has look er very raw but not really helped by Luke Shaw who has stepped up and not won the ball on 2/3 occasions which exposed the LWB. not 100% sure on the formation but it seemed that Collyer was playing RWB with Bruno and Casemiro in midfield. It didn't work at all really. Cue 11 changes at half time.
PS Bayinder is crap.
It isn’t looking good at all. Paying fans will be seeking their money back

‘Dirty Leeds’ were 2nd in the fair play table last season :p

I'm just astonished that with a week of pre-seaon and a single new addition we aren't a transformed team. Shocked.

Heaven so much better. Shaw should be embarrassed regardless of pre-season or not. He was the same in the UEFA Final.
Yoro and Heaven much more progressive than any other centre backs we have.
Totally agree. He’ll be ‘injured’ again soon enough, I’m Shaw. Hopefully both Heaven and Yoro stay fit for the majority of the season.

Thoughts on that Leeds friendly - we look exposed in the fullback areas (probably because Amorim doesn't use any), and Cunha looks pretty good.

Aside from that, pretty dire stuff. It's only a pointless preseason game but everything that happens is going to be under a microscope given how last season went...

Still a few players that really don't know how to play Amorim ball.
Yoro and Heaven looked good. If Luke Shaw never played again for us I'd be celebrating. I don't even feel bad for wishing him to pick up his usual pre-season injury. Nothing nasty but enough to keep him out for the season.

I guess Amorim has to use these matches to figure out his best 11. On today's evidence
Heaton
Heaven De Light Yoro
Dorgu Ugarte Fernandes Amad
Cunha Chido Mbeumo

It was overall rather disappoinitng but better than shipping four to Celtic

See we smashed arsenal 5-0 in a closed doors friendly today

Edit Stoke, not arsenal my bad

Important info for the highly anticipated Singapore Festival of Football!!

The next instalment of Newcastle's pre-season programme sees them visit Singapore to face fellow Premier League side Arsenal this Sunday (12.30pm BST, 7.30pm local).

While United fly out on Thursday, The Gunners are already in Singapore, defeating AC Milan 1-0 at the same venue on Wednesday. That took place in 28 degree temperatures and Mikel Arteta gave pitch time to no less than 22 players.

Our game will be followed by a penalty shootout, regardless of the score after 90 minutes. Wednesday saw AC Milan beat Arsenal 6-5 in their post-match shootout.

Both games are marketed as the "Singapore Festival of Football" although it's not a tournament; AC Milan play just once before moving on to face Liverpool in Hong Kong.

United meanwhile decamp to Korea for games against a local XI and fellow Premier League side Spurs, billed as the Coupang Play Series but again consisting of those two games only. Rather than play the Koreans, Spurs are taking on Arsenal in Hong Kong.

Venue is the 55,000 capacity Singapore National Stadium, built on the site of the former National Stadium that was visited by United back in August 1996.

Kevin Keegan's Magpies defeated an S-League Select XI 5-0 that day with new signing Alan Shearer in attendance but not involved in the game.
