2030 World Cup to be held in 6 countries !

Saw that earlier. So we going to have 7 teams automatically qualify (including the winners of 26)?
Only Spain, Portugal and Morocco (plus the 2026 winners) will qualify automatically. I say "only" but thats still 4 teams auto qualifying.

Bloody crazy but isnt the next wc going to be 48 teams or something stupid ?
Probably..and then of course the 2034 is an absolute shoe-in to be held in Saudi Arabia, probably part of why they are making such a big push at the moment for football in their country. Wonder if that will be a winter World Cup too.

I liked it when we used to just have one single country. Embrace the culture a bit and it set the vibe for the whole thing. Now they just string the whole thing out across multiple without really thinking about the impact on fans and teams. Money talks.

It will be a disaster imo. Just can’t see it working.
Likely will be, and surely they will keep the groups within the areas so fans aren't jetting back and forth across the Atlantic on an 8-10 hour flight?

OK, only the first three games. That's not so bad, but 'home' games for Uruguay, Paraguay and Argentina.

I agree in terms of the culture/"feel" of a tournament, thinking back to my childhood memories of Italia'90 with Pavarotti etc but 'spreading the love' probably has some benefits in terms of giving 'smaller' nations more opportunity to jointly host where they probably lack the resources/infrastructure to solo host. Like Morocco probably wouldn't host a WC on their own for example. Similarly with the Euros you wouldn't get Wales solo-hosting it.

Having the WC spread over 3 continents does feel a bit bonkers when it comes to hardcore away supporters though. I wonder if there will be knockout games across continents too? That would be awkward like you play group games in south america then back to Europe and then back to south america etc. They can probably engineer it so the first round of knockout matches is against teams from groups in the same region but sooner or later you progress to a round between teams based in different regions.

Argentina is also a very 'long' country, not sure how many grounds they have in the south but its a long way from Paraguay, maybe 2000 miles?

Think two smaller neighbouring countries works as one country on their own have not enough suitable stadiums.

Isn't this meant to be the one that should be in Europe?

Why do we always get shafted as European World cups are always the best.

France 98 and 2018 were by far the best ones I have witnessed. I was too young for 1990 though.

Usa 94 and South Africa in 2010 were both really good imo

I was still a little bit too young to remember 94 plus England were not in it.

I can remember the toys from McDonald's though. I had a T-Shirt which was adult sized that I used to wear to bed for many years.

I get the impression people have got the wrong idea or made an assumption. Only the first home games for Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay will be played in South America. That’s it, every other game will be in Spain, France or Morocco. Sure it sucks for any teams drawn against them, but it is only three games and could prove a huge disadvantage to those teams.

^Good to know, does seem very weird though giving 3 extra teams automatic qualification plus a home match in the World cup though? I mean why not go the whole hog and just give every nation that qualifies a home fixture? I understand it is to do with the 100 anniversary but still seems dodgy.

1986 was outside Europe and was good.
USA 94 was awful. It had a load of really poor games and a lack of any real star power
I dunno on the star power front, Baggio was a massive star at the time, prime Maldini, Maradona was still around, must have been close to peak Hagi/Stoichkov, Romario/Bebeto partnership, Bergkamp, Batigol etc. I would argue the star power was at least as high as say 2010.
