Hi Guys, my 206 52reg gti (yes i have a 206 shoot me now lol!) has developed a clunking when dipping clutch/changing gear and when accelerating hard and then lifting off again. you can feel it through the pedals and seems to be from drivers side but cannot be sure. I have heard it could be engine or gearbox mounts but am not sure where these are exactly. Could it be these that are causing this? the car also tends to wonder left and right at motorway speeds, have had the tracking checked and seems to be ok.

Any help would be much appreciated

Cheers

Chris

from eeastbourne as well ay :) i have had a few 206's gti's 134 and 180's like you say could be gearbox mount, get some rev the engine while you look at it see if you can see it swaying. i had one snap before.

Hi, yeah i think the left engine mount the one under the battery mount seems a bit loose but the clunk noise iseems to be coming from drivers side, maybe the right one is going as well but not sure where this is, i can see there is a right one listed on car parts sites

Forgot to the say, the left one under the battery is that the gearbox one?

normaly when one give way your then adding extra pressure to the others because it is no long as regid and starts to rip the rubber so its not un heard off.

am currently dealing with an mr2 like that started off with 1 mount and now its gone in to another 2.

Hi, have been on 206 info forums and they seem to think it will be wishbone buses that are causing the knocking? we did both lower arms about 30-40,000 miles ago so guess these may be worn, when we had it on the ramp we could see any excess play but it seems difficult to diagnose these without actually taking the arms off the car. would you think it could be this, rather than the engine mounts? thing is it does not just clunk when going over bumps etc.

you are spot on, i did used to be on 206info, infact probabbly still am, i would say you are correct becaues it would be when you go over bumps, unfortunataly that forum is full of teenagers who think they know what they are talking about.
does the car make the clonking when at a standstill and then rev the engine. if it does 100% not the wishbone.

Hi, when we had it on the ramp and had it in gear with hand brake on and got it to rev and move the car etc it did not seem to knock and there was not major movement anywhere obvious. The knocking does only seem to happen when you are moving etc. unless it is top suspension mounts, i guess the arms could need doing again.

Cheers

I've only ever checked for engine mounts with the car in gear, I can't see revving it in neutral being very effective.
