Cos the monitor outlasts the gpu?

I still don’t get everyone running around with a fancy 2080 or 2080ti and displaying all that power on a crappy screen

Absolutely agree, the monitor is one of the most important bits of kit in your setup and well worth investing in something that will potentially outlast most other components.

As to the OP, you should be able to find older games can run well at 4k - but newer ones will likely struggle.

I downgraded from 4K 60hz to 1440P 120hz UW and no regrets - also don't think there's really that many compelling options for 4K at the moment.
I expect the situation will change over the next few years as both consoles and gfx cards become more capable at this resolution which will in turn start driving demand.

Completely agree I spent £1k in 2007 for a Dell 3007 30" 2560x1600 screen. It was the best available at the time and I'm still using it 12 years later. Admittedly it's going to get upgraded in the near future. But it's outlasted everything else several times. Despite the original cost it has been the best value thing I've bought for the PC.

100% agree with this, monitor is without a doubt the most important part you can buy when you building a computer, people always ignore this fact, and just buy a crappy 1080p TN-panel.
Its not the 2080 ti or whatever that you are gonna look at when playing games, its your monitor.

Barely, and a 2070S would be struggling. Not to mention it has a serious issue with Nvidia GPUs and flickering with Ultimate Engine Freesync turned on, and with this res, you really need that enabled.

I'd hardly say barely. I run it with a normal 2080 which is basically a 2070s and have no issues on most games i've tried outside of KCD.

Playing DAI now ultra everything w/mods fine.
Played Witcher 3 fine.

OP idk why but people always wanna push people to pump money into a disposable GPU and instead buy a 1440p/144hz screen. I think you should at the least get a 21:9/120hz screen but if the CRG9 is in budget, get it [ and hope u get a good one ]
