2080ti black screen, try vertical mount?

So I have a 2080ti - and occasionally the screen goes black and GPU fans go to max. I have to disconnect and hold down power button for a good 20-30 seconds before I can get it to boot back up.

I'm typically running a windowed game and doing something else, like browsing internet or processing photos in lightroom. GPU is not OC, Ryzen 9 3900X OC to 4.3ghz

Concerned it's a GPU fault I tried Furmark which runs fine, GPU+fans work harder than my typical loads - temperatures fine.

Any thoughts about how to diagnose it further?

I was using the GPU support bar but thought perhaps I should mount the card vertically, so that it doesn't suffer under it's own weight.x

It's a Phanteks P600S case, it has a vertical GPU mount but no riser cable, so I was looking at the Lian-Li and had a question about that.

Will the Lian-Li or another version 4.0 fit ok, the screws are standard?

as the Phanteks own version is 3.0

Why not buy the phantek 220mm 90 degree riser I have one in my evolv x with my 3080 running great that will just slot in no fitting problem.

I would have thought a riser would create more problems than it solves. I don't think sag would cause these problems. I have never used a riser myself, but have heard some stories of it increasing temperatures owing to the fact that the air intakes may be close to the side of the case when using a riser. Not saying it will happen in your case, but it would be really disappointing if you spent all that money and it just made matters worse. Also, I wouldn't necessarily even think that it is a GPU problem. When you play games it taxes the entire PC so it could easily be something else. The very first thing I would do is switch off all overclocking, including the RAM (in other words don't use the xmp profile either.).

What are your temps?

Nothing that ever concerned me

I think GPU levelled off <80 with furmark
Checking CPU on reboot after crash was low 40, it's 50 at the moment with a windowed game running.

Noctua NH-D15 on the CPU

The bios update caused me to reset the bios, so all OC settings lost - yes I will run like this for a while see how it goes

GPU is higher than I like but not to much. Maybe it's throttling ? Or spiking? CPU is ok.
