2080ti temps when gaming

Just finished up my new PC yesterday and today I finally managed to get some time gaming with it. I’ve seen a lot online about 2080ti running hot when gaming and just want to check to see if my temps are ok, in your opinions. When gaming, the gpu immediately ramps up to 70C. Literally within the first couple of minutes, over the rest of the gaming session it tends to fluctuate at around 75-80+C. It’s an EVGA gtx 2080ti XC using the aggressive fan curve from precision X1. This is at 1440p, 144hz but mainly using high preset graphics, not even ultra. My cpu temps seem fine, it tends to be below 55C. What do you guys think? Are these ok? Thanks!

I don't think you get any throttling until mid 80s but seems higher than you'd expect.

I have just got a Zotac AMP that doesnt seem to go above 70 on standard fan curve when oc'd.

Have you visually checked all fans are spinning?

Yep, both of the fans are spinning.

For a 300 watt TDP card those are actually pretty impressive numbers, you have nothing to worry about.

Really?! That is reassuring to hear. I suppose it just came as a bit of a shock as I’ve not had temps that high before. The noise is loud with the aggressive fan curve but I can live with it I suppose.
What temperatures would be worrying for this card then?

Personally I'm sensitive to noise, always have been from the very first PC I built all my upgrades and mods were about reducing noise levels. If noise does concern you then consider moving to a full water cooled build.

I have considered that but have absolutely no idea where I would start and have no experience. I would be terrified of the outcomes!

You could always look at an AIO / NZXT Kraken G12 as an in-between step.

I was looking into the EVGA hybrid kit but they don’t seem to be in stock anywhere!!
I also did some research about the G12 but I saw mixed reviews about the cooling capabilities for the VRAM and VRM. Do you think that would be an issue?

I was looking at the EVGA Hybrid option as well, but in the end I decided to bite the bullet and go full custom WC. Just really took my time prepping and building the system to ensure no leaks / correct fitment.

When I looked at the G12 I was also thinking about getting some of the little RAM heatsinks to add onto the exposed memory modules.

IIRC Gamers Nexus looked at the VRM side of things and concluded that the airflow from the fan was enough to cool them (plus they are designed to run hot). You can always get heatsinks to go on the VRM's if necessary anyway.

EDIT: Might be worth searching for their (GN) video on fitting an AIO to a 2080Ti.

Will have a look for that now! Thanks

I wouldnt advise the G12, the EVGA 2080ti I had also had VRMs on the left side of the GPU that the fan doesnt touch. From experience you need heatsinks on all RAM and VRM's for best results.
I then tried the EVGA Hybrid on my 2080ti and the card lasted about 10 minutes with all temps saying it was fine I monitored them closely as I was nervous fitting it on a £1000 card and it was saying at 55c then half way through a 3D Mark FireStrike test I smelt really bad burning smell so immediately shut off the PC. The 2080ti had gone faulty. Took off the Hybrid and checked everything was ok even the TIM had got good contact but the 2080ti just died. Luckily EVGA replaced it under RMA. I then sold it.

So you wouldn’t recommend the G12 or the EVGA hybrid kit?

Can we go into what your case is and airflow before you hybrid it, cos if its some daft tiny case, or 0.0005mm from the top of the PSU like you see sometimes it's pointless comparing it to some other guy who gets 70c in his windtunnel of a case :)

Sorry, should have made that clear already.

It’s a Fractal Define R6 case with an ASUS Maximus XI Hero Mobo, the gpu is sat in the top x16 PCIe slot, so got a fair bit of distance from the PSU. I’ve got four fans as intake, three on the front and one in the middle bottom. Got two exhausts, one in the middle top and one at the top rear. Only thing I don’t like about the case/fans at the moment is that the bottom intake fan is under the perforated PSU shroud and there are some cables sitting above it, not on it however.
I have room to add two more exhausts to the top of the case and one more intake at the bottom. However, I would probably struggle to get the bottom intake in.

I used the EVGA hybrid kit on my 1080ti and it was fantastic. 45 max temps, pretty much same as custom loop.

Im even tempted to transfer custom loop 2080ti to hybrid as its just easier to maintain than a full custom loop.

I would probably be interested in buying one of the kits but they don't seem to be in stock anywhere!
