I have a very tight budget and need to maximise my DDR4 build before saving for a DDR5 full upgrade.

I have already purchased a i7- 11700K 8 core CPU to replace the 6 core i5 11600K. (Mainly for the Borderlands 4 requirement of 8 core CPU)

The 2080ti graphics card is the next item to improve if possible.

I play at 1440p with games like Dune Awakening, Borderlands 4, Stalker 2, Outer Worlds 2 etc (I know about the optimisation problems with Borderlands 4)

Is there something off the Bay that would cost £300 that can give me a 30% performance boost or am I better off saving for the DDR5 upgrade or a 5070ti with the current build. I know I can get £150 for the 2080ti.

Makes no sense to spend £300 when your 2080ti surpasses the minimum requirements for borderlands 4 and nothing for £300 is worth it.

Sell your 2080ti add another £100 to the kitty and get a 9070xt for £580.

9700XT are £580 though, how are these better than a 5070 for example? Is it the 16GB that makes them perform better.

More vram and faster , the 9070xt is on par with the 5070ti which is around £650.

5070 v 9070
5070ti v 9070xt

If you're buying mainly for one game, look at this:

Ive been looking at Userbenchmark for GPU comparisons. Is this not recommended for gaming? The 5070ti scores 24% better in speed.

user benchmark is rubbish..massively biased.

any yes, 12gb gpu vram isn't enough for longevity. Admittedly I have a 4k screen so the textures will be a bit more detailed etc, but i was messing with an undervolt last night and ran monster hunter wilds benchmark with my 9070xt and it used 15.6GB of my vram. I litterally think 9070/9070xt best bang for buck if you can afford it atm, and I certainly wouldn't pay more for a higher nvidia card with just 16gb vram...
also nvidia cards shunt more overhead onto the cpu than amd cards (HU were discussing it on their monthly podcast, and can be seen with the 9070xt vs 5080 with BF6, where at 1080/1440p the 9070xt beat the 5080..and at 4k overall the 5080 was4% faster but in the parts of the map that was more cpu heavy, the 9070xt pulled ahead...HU literally said unless you have a top tier cpu (ie 9800x3d), there isn't any point getting a more beefy card than the 9070xt (5090 excluded here).

if you're set on nvidia though, if you have patience, the 5070 super will be out end of year which will come with 18gb vram...then depending on price, they just might have a contender

another test of boderlands4 using a 9800x3d...you want to go to 9 mins odd to see the 1440p data, and 12.30mins for 1440 with medium settings (with multiple gpu's)
