Our current Hyundai i40 is now starting to get old. Well over 100k, rattly and tired.

My normal M.O. is to buy a 2 year old car from a main dealer.

Not keen on PHEV - would rather a simple euro6 petrol.

Requirements:
Size - i40 was a good fit - think Mondeo Estate for size. Would consider an SUV.
Decent spec level - adaptive cruise control etc
Decent warranty - Buying at 2 years old, it's nice to have a decent period of warranty left
Performance - would like sub 10secs, but not at the cost of daft servicing costs

So what should I be looking at?

Skoda Octavia/Superb seems obvious, anything else?

Performance - would like sub 10secs, but not at the cost of daft servicing costs

Should be able to get sub 10 seconds or thereabouts without crazy costs and personally wouldn't want to drive without that level of performance as a minimum, with today's traffic it is nice to be able to drive decisively sometimes.

Kia Proceed Shooting Brake or Kia Ceed Sportwagon

Both should meet the requirements for space, have the remainder of a 7 year/100k warranty, and the 160hp engine is good for 0-60 in ~8.3 seconds

Edit:
There's also a 201bhp model which definitely has adaptive cruise "Smart Cruise Control with Stop and Go Functionality" and has "Heated Steering Wheel"

Even if you have to go for a 2021 car, not really a problem given the long warranty

I only had a quick look at the Proceed but the usable boot space is massively compromised by that sloping roofline. May not be an issue depending on requirements but definitely think of is as a hatch rather than a proper estate body type.

My colleague has a Ceed estate, seems OK. Similar boot space to my Leon ST.

Plus one for the Superb / Octavia vote, they are fantastic value for money and their common platforms makes it easy to find parts and specialists if they ever go wrong.

Annoyingly on Skoda the rear parking camera is an option on all trims apart from Superb L&K. Adaptive Cruise Control is available on SEL and above though.

If you wanted something SUV like you could look at the Tarraco. Excellence trim and above has everything you'd need.

The good thing about VAG cars (and BMWs) is that there is a good selection of competent and experienced retrofitters who can retrofit fit and code to factory spec additional options using OEM materials. Anything from newer navigation systems to cameras and even xenon lights (expensive!) is doable which would allow you to buy a great car with good history even if it was missing an option you really want. You can simply get it retrofitted afterwards. This is absolutely not the case with other manufacturers (especially Asian ones) where there aren't really any retrofitters.

Can't really go wrong with a Superb. I've got a 2020 Passat. It's dull as **** but incredibly practical, very economical and quite well equipped. 2.0 TDI and will do 75mpg on the motorway if you keep it under 70.
AFAIK you can extend the warranties quite reasonably with all the VWG products so long as you service it in the dealer network. The Superb is massive.
