20th anniversary of the release of Wolfenstein 3D

The Bethesda Blog is celebrating the recent 20th anniversary of the release of Wolfenstein 3D, id Software's seminal first-person shooter. They have a Wolfenstein 3D Director's Commentary with John Carmack video podcast and are offering Wolfenstein 3D Classic Platinum free on iTunes for a limited time as well as a free version of the game that's playable in a browser.

it will eb 10 years since wolf-et came out next year

still play it now ... got the original download disc form pc-zone back in the day that got to be a collectors item lol

I was thinking earlier that although Wolf3D was fairly groundbreaking, it is pretty staggering how much better Doom is considering it was only released the next year. In the space of a year there was a massive stride forward, in the sense that Doom is still playable today whereas W3D is pretty poor (very bland level design, enemies, weapons etc). We just don't see that rate of change anymore.
