Any ideas on when or if this will happen?

I'd like to see bigger monitors where ppi can stay decent. I love the allure of the 21:9 aspect ratio and movie watching plus the gaming experience that it entails... After seeing Linus review of the 3440x1440 monitor I want something like that, but maybe bigger. :)

Well, 21:9 4K would be 5120x2160 I believe

I don't think we'll see anything with that res until DisplayPort 1.3 is out, simply due to the bandwidth requirements. The spec for DP 1.3 still isn't finalized either, so might be awhile before we see it on video cards.

The sweet spot seems to be 34 inches in ultrawide format and i do not see anything more coming this year infact next year we might get a minor bump but as far as monitors go they are pushing pixels now and progress takes a decade.

You could go out tomorrow and make a fantastic monitor and have it ready for next year. For example tempered glass where is it? Smartphone now spank monitors on picture quality due to the ppi and tempered glass. Will we ever see the same from Dell or LG? By the time they get something decent out Occulus will have smartphone quality picture and we will probably all move to that!

Then you have IGZO which alongside DP 1.3 and freesync would have enabled them to bump up the hz a little as IGZO can better do this for LED LCD panels which is what they are going to stay on as even Panasonic have dropped OLED in favour of glass LED. You could just take the UM95 give it tempered glass coating and run it at around 90hertz or around 10ms which some of the panels are now approaching in response time anyways.
