21.9 monitor or Rog swift?

im liking the look of the 21.9, ive never used gsync so i dont know if im missing anything or not, tried 120hz and was a bit wasted on me as i didnt feel any benifit so 3440x1440 is what im looking at for my next monitor

I have two LG 29" 21.9 monitors I have them set and play @1920-1080 ,as playing games at the recommended resolution makes my games look a little strange lol.

cant say about gsync though as I have not used it

If you're only trying out the FPS's and are more focussed on the Total War / AOE, then I'd recommend the 21:9. 3440x1440 for the extra vertical screen real estate, of course :)

Am I right in thinking that the 21.9 screen is filled completely by the game supporting the resolution and I just simply need to select it from the drop down box?

What percentage of games would you say support 21.9 as a guess

:)

You are correct. Sadly, some games don't take advantage of the new resolution (I'm looking at you, Ubisoft!). But most games I've played seem to support it nicely. Those that don't are reasonably well catered for by the Flawless Widescreen application.

Don't expect 21:9 support from ANY Ubisoft game, that's for sure.
All their games are currently on the bottom of my backlog list because of that.

Most games support 21:9 or Flawless Widescreen will have a fix to correct things, like Skyrim for instance the UI is a little messy at 21:9 but FW fixes this for you.

+ Once you go 21:9, you'll never go back.

All games work perfectly fine from ubisoft in that aspect ratio from what I've seen .... The crew is fine and so is far cry 4 ! The UI isnt full 21:9 in those but in gameplay it is , but then again most games don't support UI @ that ratio even when gameplay does . It's common

Watch_Dogs
Splinter Cell: Blacklight (Conviction Also)
Any other Assassin's Creed before Unity
Far Cry 3

It's only something they've recently bothered to do because the forums are trawled with hate around the topic, I'm fairly sure they could fix the UI scaling as well if they bothered.

But on topic of Swift or 21:9, all depends on preference, a lot of my games don't need fast past refresh rates and benefit from super widescreen.

I finally hooked up my Dell u3415w last night and can say that I'm fully sold on the aspect ratio. It is without doubt the best upgrade I've made in a long time. I'm sure the Swift is also a good screen however I can't see myself switching from a 21:9 in the future either. It's ideal for me.

I have a Dell 21:9 and a Rog Swift. Gaming on a 21:9 is really nice, but since getting the swift 4 months ago, with its Gsync and 120/140 hz, I think I've gamed once on the Dell. And I was a complete 'TN high Hz skeptic'

Does that tell ya something? :)

21:9 is the ratio of champions IMO. We just need an IPS 140hz 21:9 monitor and i'd be set for life.

I decided to opt for the Dell U3415W 34" 21:9 1440p over the Asus ROG. Prefer the idea of being able to replace my dual monitor setup with a single one for productivity work and I didn't feel that a single 27" 16:9 monitor would allow me to do this.

I also upgraded to a 120Hz monitor previously and, like yourself, didn't feel it offered any benefit over 60Hz so without seeing it I'm sceptical whether Gsync is worth the cost of having to go with an inferior TN panel. Plus I think that 21:9 would be awesome for gaming and movies as an added bonus! Having only used 16:9 and 4:3 previously the ultrawide aspect is also something a bit different and new so excited me in a way that Gsync/144Hz just didn't.

Maybe one day we'll have 8k high hz IPS/OLED panels with Gsync /Freesync and won't have to make these compromises. Then again by that point in time there'll likely be something new out ..... :)

this is my exact sentiment. i owned (in fact i still do) a DELL U2913WM and i was very happy to game on it, watch movies, etc. i despised TN panels, because of the washed out colors, etc etc.

out of curiosity, i bought the swift some months ago (one of the first batch available in Slovakia) and i have not looked back since. i mean the ratio is nice and all, but gsync is gsync. in the words of the almighty morpheus:

"unfortunately, no one can be TOLD, what gsync is, you have to see it for yourself"

i am now waiting for a 120Hz+ 21:9 gsync screen with the resolution of 3440:1440, that would be my endgame.

Is 34" 21.9 that much better than 29"?

It's a pretty huge step up in both size and resolution. To compare a 29" one is about the same height as a 24" 16:9 monitor whereas the 34" one is on par with a 27" 16:9.

Most of the 34" models are 3440x1440 resolution whereas the 29" ones are only 2560x1080. I personally wasn't that interested in a 29" model because it was smaller vertically than a 27" 16:9 hence why I've ordered a 34" one.
