I've found this website handy for comparing what widescreen v normal or different sizes of monitor will look like. http://www.tvcalculator.com/
Alternatively to get the best idea of what it will look like in real life cut out the size from a newspaper and stick it on the front of your existing monitor, it really gives you an idea of the size differences.
