Hi i have been looking at the 210bhp and 225bhp models of the Audi S3 but have been told that there isnt actually any difference between the two engines!? Aparantly Audi has lied whicst trying to promote the TT and the 210 is in fact the 225!?

Is this true?

Also is the Revo or AMD worth getting?

I don't mean to be funny but come on, this is basic stuff that anyone seriously considering spending a 5 figure some on a performance car really ought to know..

Yes, the engines are the same but they are in different states of tune. No, Audi do not lie about power outputs.

Revo/AMD/etc are ECU remaps which increase power - whether its worth getting or not is entirely down to you and how much performance you want.

I'm beginning to see Will Gills point in the last thread. Audi lying about power outputs, what a daft thing to think

Pretty reasonable question in my opinion Deputy Fox.

I can think of a fair few makers who dont disclose the correct power outputs of cars be it for tax/insurance/market reasons in the past.

He doesnt know that this isnt one. He is asking here. Is that not what the forum is for?

Its not that unheard of. Watched something the other day about buying E36 M3s and the guy talking about the car said that BMW exaggerated its output - said it was 320 but was actually 290 - figures probably not spot on but its what they said.

How does he know this?

Please dont say he had it dyno'd...

Depends where it was tested. Rumors like this often spring up where an owner has had a car tested at a Rolling Road where the RR isn't calibrated properly and under reads or in certain cases over reads *cough LAD Motorsport cough*

its a well known fact that the majority of M cars have inflated power figures (new V10 excepted)

my M5 was rr'd at 373bhp by previous owner which is pretty much what they all got - mostly in the range 360-390 ish.

i have also heard that E36 M3's, especially the evo's are overated, as are the E46's.

another manufacturer which supposedly does this a fair bit is TVR.

Not the most credible of sources I must admit, but it was on Used Car Roadshow on Men & Motors (Stop laughing at the back!!)

Last weeks program I think. The big chubby guy and Penny Malory (sp).

As for RR figures, I know from experience that they can vary wildly. If I want a print out to show off down the pub I go to a well known place just outside london. If I want to make myself depressed and bin the print out when nobody is looking I'll go to the wilds of Gloucester!

Ive got the 225 VAG engine in an '05 Seat LCR. Nice engine. Not sure about the Audis, but Revo can easily take you to 270bhp. People have IHI'd the 225s to over 360, can go a long way if you have the inclanation and $$$

Again, not sure if this is the case with Audi, but the older (210's) had coilpack problems.
