This will look like a noob question but my father has payed for new parts Mobo,Cpu,Ram etc but the ram he payed for is 256mb/2100/ he did this to save money now obviously his pc is running slow as hell. I have told him that he should have payed for 3200 ram as his mobo supports all three of these so what should i tell him to do? get rid of the 2100 and get 1gb of 3200? Also is there a big difference in the three?

Well he should have got 512mb as a minimum, 256mb is for masochists if running XP. And yes you are correct in thinking he should have got ddr3200, surprised anywhere still sell ddr2100 unless it a socket A system then the bus speed may not be such a problem.

Thats the thing hes a cheapskate he bought a sempron 2400 socket A, and a ASROCK K7S41/M/ASR MOTHERBOARD, and the cheap ram.

I think the Sempron runs on a 166/333/pc2700 fsb so the memory will hold it back slightly. I would say get at least a half gig stick of ddr2700 but with prices only going up if you can get it a 1Gb stick of ddr 400

So if he gets 1gb of 3200 that will be fine? Also which is best Crucial or Corsair? One more thing is 2.5 latency better that 3.0 latency

Thanks for the help so far guys you are the best :)

Its sorted we bought 512mb pc3200 samsung ram :) also im going to upgrade my own pc to dual channel so hes going to get my 512mb ram stick which is also pc3200 samsung brand
