My friend is looking to purchase a new gaming rig I was looking around on various website's I've found a really good one, it's processor is the I3 2100 I saw on AnandTech that the 2100 is better for gaming, but I quickly found out that there is a quad core and a dual core is the one from AnandTech quad core if so he proceed to buying, thanks. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/434?vs=289

That i3 2100 is dual core with Hyperthreading.

If you're going the Intel route then you're best off with a i5 2500K, it's a quad core and cheaper than the FX8150.

Two massively different priced chips lol.
One's sub 100, the other is above 200.

Out of those two though, the FX8150 over a 2100, but you're obviously doing something wrong.

For the price of the duel 2100 you could get a AMD 960T (should OC to 4ghz and 4 cores0 or possibly even a 1055T (if it was on a deal - 6 cores should OC to 4ghz)

But for browsing and minecraft surely if the benchmarks show the I3 2300 performing better it's better?

Yeah but as mentioned the i3 2100 is a £100 chip, it's fast in games where core speed counts but slower in areas like productivity (or newer games) where more cores help.

The FX 8150 is a £200+ processor, if you're happy to pay £200 for a FX 8150 then why not get a quad core i5 2500K (~£170) where you'll have great all-around performance instead of limiting your friend to a dual core.

8150 is faster, but if there's any way you can get a 2300/2400/2500 then go for them. Although the 2100 would play minecraft mine.

Right, what are the two CPU's?
You've said two completely different Intel ones and two different AMD ones.

Is it the 2100 or the 2300, is it the 8150 or the 4150?

I would go with the Intel I3 and a Z68 board, this would allow a upgrade to Ivy Bridge and also possible overclocking with the correct CPU in the future.
