I have come across a Samsung 2233SW+, the same as this but with a higher contrast ratio and 1920x1080. I was actually just wondering if it would downscale to 1680x01050 as my 9800GTX+ won't cut some games with high AA/AF with VSync.

You could decrease the resolution, but it would look pretty awful. LCD monitors have a native resolution which is what they should be run at (becasue thats how many pixels they have), if you put in a different resolution signal into them they will use techniques like dithering to achieve the resolution - but the image looks a good deal worse than the image at native resolution.

If you want a very good 22in monitor to run at 1680x1050, I strongly suggest getting this (review here).

have u tryed 720p res on the more demmanding games? its still 16:9 so wouldnt look at bad as a 16:10 with black bars

just most of the stuff on screen is more huddled up

My old 9800GTX used to run most things fine at 1920x1200 with no AA.

You don't really need AA when you're running HD and on the 22" screen most things will look sharper anyway!

I would suspect this to be some what true.

The smaller the pixels, the less need there is for AA.

Awesome, i'll give that 22" screen with 1920x1080 a shot as it's only 60 quid here in Hong Kong. Actually, they advertise it at 21.5", so it could be a load of rebadged Sammy monitors that didn't make it as a premium product. :D
