Hi, ive always wanted the Dell 2407 and 2405 before that but could never really justify the price at the times I had the cash...

However, now the prices are falling on the screens should I still be looking at the Dell 2407 or one of the new Samsung screens?

Sammy SM-226BW 22" --- £223

or

Sammy SM-245B 24" --- £305

Both seem really good... but what would you do?

ps... I have a 4800+ X2, 2x1GB Ballistix PC4000 & BFG 8800GTS 640mb... I love gaming but wondered whether the bigger 24" screen would just make my system look older when playing the newer games.

I had pretty much the same question....

I bought a 226CW and then took it back and got a 245B... and now I'm pondering whether to go back.

Basically, I love the low response (or so it seems) of the 226 but love the estate of the 245B.... there isn't a monitor for me yet it seems! (so I may keep the 245B and buy a low response 24" when they come out).

As for making games look old, I have an 8800GT and it runs tf2/ut3 etc at full @ 1920x1200. Shall try COD4 later but from what I've seen I'll max out VSync. Crysis is another point entirely but I don't see the point of the game so don't play it :p

Thank you mate,

When you say that you are tempted to go back to the 22"... do you find that the response of the 24" is bad for gaming? Do you get any ghosting at all?

Also, do you mind me asking what you moved from initalliy before the 22".

I have a 19" Viewsonic 4:3 TFT that is great... did you think that the 22" was an updrade from your previous screen or is it just not big enough?

Thanks again! :)

Think its more motion blur than ghosting. It just feels(felt) odd... I do need to put vsync on for the 24", with the 22" I didn't... don't know if that means anything ;)

I moved from a 17" tft (hercules 920 and a dell e173p iirc) as the estate just wasn't "big" enough and I had bought a nice shiny new PC so thought I'd treat myself.

Initially went 22" as I didn't feel I'd need the extra space of the 24" and there was a good £100 saving in it (based on the 226BW...). Went 226CW to guarantee myself a sammy panel and for the new wide gamut which was an added bonus. Think I paid £260 for that so the difference between the 245B and the 22" made me start thinking...

Due to the res of the 22" (1650x1080), it just felt like a wide 17". This was the main reason I took it back. I really prefer the space afforded to me by 24"/1920x1200. With regards to your 19", moving from 4:3 to 16:9/10 is an upgrade in itself and is well worth doing.

Initially I thought games "felt wrong" with the 245B, they may still do but I've gotten used to it. As we speak, I've already bought and paid for a 226BW but haven't collected it as I may cancel it. I was tempted to put them side by side.

So for the moment... I'm unsure. I have 4 days to decide whether to take the 245B so I'm still deciding!

You mean 5:4 ;)

A 22" widescreen it smaller vertically than your 19" 5:4. That should give you some idea of what size it is. Check out this http://tvcalculator.com/index.html?a9230881b77560dab3fcd73f2a07515d

That's a wicked little tool mate! :) Thank you very much!

I think I'm decided on the 22" :) I just dont want to keep upgrading gfx cards so I think the 24" is best left alone with such a big res.

Cheers :)

This is a toughy, i constantly defend 226bw's despite selling mine. I made the mistake of buying a 2407wfp aswell and having them both sat next to each other and the 2407wfp just feels like its of such a higher quality yet i'd have to say the 226bw is better allround "bang for buck". Comparing them side by side is like comparing an old banger with a bmw 7-series and eventually i fell out of love with the 226bw and replaced it with a cheap second hand quality CRT for first person shooters, while the 2407wfp was just simply "better" at every other type of game and has such a wow factor about it by comparison. 24" undoubtedly looks a lot bigger than 22" too, far more than that website makes out :)

This goes on and on, i'm giving serious thought lately to moving my 2407wfp along for a 40" sammy F86 @ £1000 ish :) It never ends!

226bw/cw is great and respresents value for money but you do get what you pay for aswell.
