I want a fairly cheap and smallish monitor (£150 exc VAT max), so in the future I can go dual or triple without spending a huge amount of money, while still keeping all monitors the same.

Anyway, I'e narrowed it down to the Asus VH226H 22" 1920*1080 and a Sammy T220 22" 1680*1050. The main thing I can't decide is, at 1080p on a 22" monitor, will everything be too small? I like the idea of extra resolution (GPU could handle it fine 4870 1GB) but I've heard good things about the Samsung T range.

Also, HDMI, 1080p and the 16:9 aspect on the Asus will help if I decide to plug my PS3 into it.

Can anyone with either of these panels help me out? Or even recommend a better one for a similar price.

The t220's are great looking monitors and have great panels imo but they suck for connectivity. if you're even considering plugging in a ps3 then get something with hdmi inputs.

1080p scaled on a 22" looks just fine and isn't to small so long as your not sitting at the other end of the room from the monitor. will never be as good as native 1920x1080 though.

if you really are going to go dual or triple in the end, you might want to consider the Dell 2209WA as it has an IPS panel, which i'd personally go for over any TN Film ever made, but in your case the viewing angles might come in handy simply for a dual or triple setup.
