22" widescreen recommendations please

the LG W2253V-PF might be a better choice then the Samsung actually - bit cheaper too but its not available from OCUK unfortunately

Are you bothered about resolutions - would you prefer 1920x1080 over 1680x1050?
 
Resolution wise 1680x1050 should be fine, full HD may be a problem for my 4850 ;)

That Dell 2209WA looks tempting as it not a TN matrix, all the others are.

If you can stretch your budget then go for the 2209wa .. it may be £50 more than your budget but its a good investment for a brilliant monitor
 
I'm using the ASUS vh222h with a 4850, it copes admirably with source based games & blu ray.

£160, it's nothing mega great like the well touted dell but it is great for gaming & watching films. Being a TN panel doesn't matter to me as I sit in front of it or lie in front of it to watch movies.

All in all I'm more than happy with it & would deffo get another (if I had the cash)

The LG Flatron W2252TE isn't the best, but it consumes half as much power and gives great results. If you can find it for the same price then i would go for it.
 
I've had my Dell 2209WA for a few days now. It's a very professional and very well built screen. It didn't totally blow me away which is testament to my Sammy screen despite it's faults. I must say, the Dell has zero light bleed, which is nice. And As to be expected no dead pixels. The build and the way the stand works is great, with it being fully height adjustable, swivel and tilt is a breeze. That's a big improvement for me. The menu's are relatively easy to use, with a fair few settings to play around with. The two things that impressed me the most though was when I viewed photo's and played games. This really shows up the superior colour range and contrast the Dell has. Pictures also look very crisp and colour vibrant. my dad visited at the weekend and brought his calibration spyder. He was most impressed with the viewing angles from the e-ips panel. He does a lot of digital photography and now wants one of these Dell monitors after seeing mine. But for me, it was all about the gaming. I played a few FPS games and they all looked superb. My sammy was a 2ms panel and this is a 5ms panel but there is no ghosting what so ever..... All the games looked sharper and felt very real and fluid.

If you're going from a very old CRT or LCD monitor then this Dell will have the WOW factor for you. I'm still getting used to it at the moment. Maybe i'm be over critical after having my sammy.

...Does the 2209 Turn off by or go into Standby by itself - When you turn off your PC? ...and then does it turn on by itself - When you turn your PC on?

Yeh it does.

Can i ask the guys who also have the 2209wa, whether they find the screen quite dark, even with brightness and contrast turned up? A few pics would be great.

I find when playing games, i have to turn the gamma up if its got an option, otherwise its very dark.

My monitor just seems to have its default gamma set too low, but ive not found a way to change this, theres no option in the advanced menu to do so.
