Hello all,

Looking to upgrade to two monitors, had two for a short spell and going back to one is like returning to dial-up :P

Currently have a 2209WA and have always had the idea in the back of my head to get another one, however, I noticed immediately that OCUK don't stock it and that the price had crept up to £250 for new. Now I don't mind going refurb to get hold of one at the £170 mark, but was wondering how the U2211H ranks up in comparison and if there were any alternative 'sweet spot' monitors at the £200 mark.

Many thanks

The U2211H is a nice monitor, here is an in-depth review.

However, as a match for a 2209WA in a dual screen arrangement it is not ideal. First the resolution is a bit higher at 1920x1080 (vs the 1680x1050 of the 2209WA) which means more on-screen real estate, but smaller pixels. The U2211H is only 21.5" diagonally and 16:9 aspect ratio (compared to 22" and 16:10 with the 2209WA), so the total viewable area of the screen is less with the U2211H, it is also not as tall, but a bit wider. In terms of image quality I think the two are pretty much on par - going by the above review and user feedback on OCUK, both certainly use good quality E-IPS panels.

In conclusion, the U2211H is a nice monitor, but for you I think a second 2209WA is the best option.

From what I've read, the 2209WA is better than the current Dell U models (U2211H/U2311H). It had better viewing angles and colours as well as lower response time.

This video here somewhat highlights the differences (ignoring skewed video aspect ratio):

Default color accuracy is much better on the U221H. Unless the U221H is being viewed from way off angle it will always look better then the 2209WA which has one of the worst measured contrast ratios on the market next to the U2410 (600:1 vs 850-900:1 on the U221H).

Digital Versus has an awesome Face-Off Section which includes both monitors:

One thing to note though is that you are essentially gaurenteed to get a tinted panel with the U221H. If lots of gaming or movie watching is a priority I would stay as far away as possible from the current Dell IPS panels, save some money and go for a TN.
