Hi there!

I'm looking to buy a new monitor for my bedroom. As it will be the only screen in the room I'm looking for a sort of 'all in one' monitor. It's primary use will be for gaming but I'd also like it for TV/Blu-rays so hopefully I won't have to choose between one or the other.

Want
- 120Hz
- 23" or 24"
- HDMI port(s) for PS3/TiVo
- Good response time

Don't Care
- 3D
- Viewing angle

I've been looking at the following displays

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-164-SA&groupid=17&catid=1425&subcat= - Samsung S23A750D 23" 120Hz 3D Widescreen Ultra Thin LED Monitor - Glossy Black [LS23A750DS/EN]
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-051-BQ&groupid=17&catid=510&subcat= - Benq XL2420T 24" TRUE 120Hz 3D Vision 2 Widescreen LED Monitor - Black/Red
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-036-DE&groupid=17&catid=510&subcat= - Dell UltraSharp U2410 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Midnight Grey [860-10089]

Any advice is much appreciated.

On a related note, how do computer monitors handle TV anyway? I've never heard much about it.

Hi there, Welcome to the OCUK forums :)

May I ask what graphics card you are running? As this affects which monitors you can use for "2D" 120Hz (Nvidia cards can only use 120Hz monitors which have a dual-link DVI port, while AMD cards can use either dual-link DVI or displayport).

If you are plugging in external devices into the monitor - how would you prefer to get the audio out of them, since not many monitors have in-built speakers?

Also, if you plug these devices in then I wouldn't go for a 16:10 monitor that doesn't do 1:1 pixel mapping like the Dell U2412M.

Thanks for the quick response. I'm going to be buying a new system soon and I haven't actually chosen a video card yet. As for the audio, I'll use headphones for my PS3. No idea about the TiVo box though.

If you do go for an AMD card (or one of the few Nvidia cards with displayport 1.2) then I would suggest the Samsung S23A750 you mentioned above.

This monitor does 120Hz via the displayport connection (and very nicely at that), has a HDMI port so you can connect a PS3/Tivo and it has a 3.5mm audio out - so you can connect your headphones/speakers to the monitor and get the sound output.
