I've seen a few of these monitors around and am considering getting two to replace my 28" 4k that just died.

As this is OCUK I'll be clear up front: My primary usage is not gaming, it's programming. Real estate and sharp fonts are far more important to me than colour reproduction or response time. Although I will be gaming on it, this is a secondary concern.

As usual it looks like there are multiple manufacturers selling the same panel. Here's one example:
https://www.overclockers.co.uk/lg-2...creen-led-gaming-monitor-black-mo-14b-lg.html

They all support the same features so I'm guessing it's the same panel. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be many in depth reviews of any model I could find. Can anyone advise about the quality of these panels/monitors before I press the button?

For anyone saying: "Everything will be too small", I have no problem using my 15.6" retina macbook with an even higher PPI.

So I went for it. Figured I'd go for 2x 24" rather than 1x 27" at roughly the same price and I'm glad I did.

For £200 each I bought 2x Acer 4k 24" IPS CB241HQK. I couldn't find anything in the way of reviews but for the price these things are incredible. In every meanignful way they are better than the Asus PB287Q that died. The bezel isn't as nice, and the plastic used on the stand/bezel is a magnet for fingerprints but the panel is great. Haven't tried gaming yet but:

- The IPS panel gives noticably better colours

- Good calibration out of the box. I spent hours getting the Asus right

- Screen uniformity is better

- Less backlight bleed than the Asus (which wasn't bad anyway. There's still a little on these but well within acceptable)

- No more BGR font antialising. The Asus panel used BGR subpixel order, which is fine, but some applications employ their own antialiasing rather than using the system-wide one and assume RGB which means the occasional ugly application.

- I much prefer the sharper fonts given from the higher PPI. It's actually comparable to my retina macbook pro which I always preferred over the 28" 4k Asus. I know it's personal preference but I don't get why anyone would favour screen size over image sharpness.

Now rocking a 7680x2160 desktop! A forced upgrade, but an upgrade I'm very happy with! Amazing value for money!

edit: And apparently I have two different accounts on here.

Everything will be too small.
I'd say 1920x1200 for 24" 16:10 is a good PPI.

Unless you can increase size of icons, fonts, borders etc with no issue. ie like mobile phones, letters are easy to read but sharp. I'd say 4K want a bigger screen, keeep it the same PPI

If it's not too late.. I use a 34" ultrawide (LG 34UC98-W) at work for coding in IntelliJ. Laptop is a 2016 retina MBP. I think it's great for the task and the resolution is fine for text at base scale.

Being able to have multiple panes open side-by-side is awesome and the higher reosltuion means there's room for the console/terminal at the bottom, too

I already took the plunge and bought the two Acer CB241HQK 4k monitors. They are now on sale for £299 each, I bought them for £199 each less than a month ago!

I am loving the 7680x2160 desktop experience for development and the 23.6" area gives such a nice pixel density it actually rivals the macbook retina. I much prefer the higher pixel density of this panel than the 28" 4k I had before. With two 4k screens I get a lot of real estate and a high pixel density :)
