For some reason the search function isn't finding 24-70 when I know it's been mentioned a hell of a lot. Ho hum.

I got an email this morning and was just flicking through it but was baffled when I saw the image quality here. Is this the standard image quality of this lens? Everything I'd read before this raves about how sharp it is and compares it to the extremely sharp 70-200mkii. Looking at this review, the quality looks very average to me. The only reason I'm suddenly concerned is I'm literally days away from buying one and really didn't need to see this :D

Oh and the sample images at the end of the review are VERY poor quality. You'd think they'd at least post some taken at acceptable settings. Baffled! I'm not being funny but I had better quality images from my kit lens on my 300D!

These are certainly not on par with even my 24-70 MK I.

Most of the pics I've seen of the 24-70 MKII put my 70-200 2.8 MKII to shame and it's really sharp, only reason I've not upgraded my MKI yet is the cost.

Yeah it's not cheap, but I've landed the good side of a mortgage so will have enough to buy one. I was going to get the 70-200 too, but as I barely use my F4 version I've decided to stick to primes above 70mm.

It's just sods law that I read this immediately before I buy something; just enough to make me really stressed while I wait for it to arrive. If things go right I could even have the money by tomorrow afternoon!

I'm off at the end of next month. My current plan was to take the 24-70 and go wandering around Scotland with that and a tripod.

I haven't used the 24-70 mkII, I have noticed if forums though that some have dumped all their primes for a two lens setup with the 24-70 mkII and 70-200 mkII. So it's got to be half decent?
