Decided to upgrade my 20" Samsung 205BW.

Play games , surf and watch movies on the PC.

First thought was Samsung 245B (cheaper) but as it will be what I look at for a few years(probably) decided to avoud a TN panel and spend up to £400.

There are quite a few 24" monitors around in the price range and all seem to have one type of problem (ghosting, input lag, backlight bleeding etc) or another but have settled on the two above as the 'best' choices.

Like the 4yr warranty with the Dell - not keen on ghosting mentioned

Like the reviews of the Benq , only one mention of any ghosting , but only a 3 yr warranty and doesn't look to be as user friendly as the Dell system.

Would appreciate your views in partic. any Benq owners

I am in the same predicament - I've been looking for a 2407 (A04 Revision) for months now - but can only find them on the bay :(
I've been looking at the Benq but I really prefer the look of the Dell

I've got the BenQ FP241W Z and am very happy with it, moved on from the NEC LCD20WGX2. My dads got the Dell and it's also a great screen, not at home so I can't do a direct comparison but they are both very good.

Even tho i hate Dell as a company, you definitely can't go wrong with their monitors since they are using Samsung chips which are ones of the better out there atm.

Dont look at the warranty since dells one is rubbish anyways but I've got my 20" for over 2 yrs now and didnt have any probs at all with it, also my friend has the 24 and 26 ones and they are fine aswell.

No idea about Benq at all, never had anything from them so I cant comment on this.

Many thanks for all replies (partic. mrk's) - am now convinced that it should be the BenQ.

Would help if it is listed in this week offers tommorrow:D

Otherwise will probably have to leave till end of month - and assuming it doesn't go up , car need repairs , better half spend it on something else etc -then it'll be a buy

Ordered 2 of the BenQ WZ at about 2pm yesterday, both of them arrived this morning.

Going from a tiny 14.1inch screen these babies are HUGE. Colour reproduction is amazing and not a single dead/faulty pixel.

Well worth the money, press the buy button! Spent 2 weeks deciding which monitor to get and ended up with the Ben Q's. You wont be disappointed :)

One thing to note, these monitors are VERY bright. Had to turn down brightness and contrast a fair bit to make it comfortable for daily use.

Took the plunge and pressed 'buy' - Benq FP241 W

Roll on tommorrow , delivery and install

Good man, you'll see its money well spent the moment you hit the power button.

Received today.

Hard to tell if it's been used before.

Box has cetainly been sellotaped over after having been opened.

Screen looks o'k upon a cursory inspection ( not switched on - will be tonight before I can asemble & plug in)

Surprised to note that manufacture date id gien as June '07 - old stock?

Concerned if :-

a) Been used before (don't want 2nd hand) ; and

b) if the firmware does support 1:1 pixel mapping - it is supposed to!!
Would be a great help if any owner of this panel knows how I can test that it does so do - do not own PS3 etc to plug in etc - should it be listed somewhere on OS ?

Advise appreciated

Hi AgedIdiot,

I received my 2 units with the box opened. I just assumed they tested the screens before sending them out.

To see if 1:1 pixel maping is supported: Menu > System > Display Mode. You should see Full, Aspect and 1:1.

Well the BenQ FP241W is better than the 2408 (had both) which is better than the 2407 so... :p
Better how?

Being a photographer, I'd have thought colour accuracy was key to choosing a new monitor.

If you work in sRGB the order has to be: 2407WFP > FP241W > 2408WFP > 2407WFP-HC

If you work in Adobe RGB it has to be: 2408WFP > 2407WHP-HC > 2407WFP > FP241W

Obviously that's completely ignoring input lag, ghosting and all those other 'features' of the latter revision Dells.

Up and running.:D

not run a lot yet - Jaw still on floor !!

I know its only 4" bigger than my Samsung but it feels twice the size, colours more faithful , no fading etc

Should have done this years ago - forget cpu/graphics etc upgrades get a decent size monitor first.

Am looking forward to films and gaming on this. No sight of any dead pixels yet or power supply hum 'fingers crossed'

Glad you like it mate. My jaw was below the floor with 2 of them sitting side by side :D

Get the colour calibration set up, adjust the brightness + contrast and enjoy some blueray 1080 movies.

Once calibrated any of the mentioned displays will give excellent colour accuracy.

The BenQ gives more faithful colours out of the box, the 2408WFP was too saturated and not natural. Both are good after calibration which then boils down to the "issues" with the Dell that the BenQ has none of.

mrk, dont suppose you still have the BenQ's color profile from when you calibrated yours do you?
