Ok i've done a little bit of searching and it isn't really clear which monitors are best for gaming with a xbox 360.

I've got the hdmi arcarde version (replaced an old faulty 360), I've currently got it set up to a tv in the living room via the HDMI connection. But want to get a monitor so that i can game at the same time my girlfriend is watching the tv. I also have a vga cable and component cable for the 360 from previous set ups i've had, so doesn't have to be hdmi compatible.

The sole purpose of this monitor is for the 360. so i don't see any reason to opt for the 1920x1200 monitors.

I'll also be using a 2.1 sound system, looking at probably getting the logitec Z4, so will need to be able to connect this up to the 360/monitor some how.

Now I've seen monitor by manufactures like BenQ, Acer, Hanns G, etc selling for around £150, these are 24" 1080p screen with vga/dvi/hdmi. Would these screen be any good for my purpose?

I've also seen the Dell LED on overclockers for around £230, which looks really nice. This is more than i'd like to pay, but if it really is going to make a difference i don't mind the investment. But not looking to spend more than £200 really, and the less the better.

Any other models out there that fit my purpose better?

i have a dell 2408, and used to run my ps3 via hdmi to dvi cable and run the sound through my sorround sound system. Works ok, i did notice on things like GTA 4 to view the minimap and stuff was slightly annoying, had to sit up close to the screen to see where to go.
Not sure how the xbox works but i imagine you can stipulate where the sound outputs to and the video seperatly but check first.

happy with my Dell, bout 2-3 years old and still going strong. im sure its possible but i didnt know 24" monitors came in many other native res than 1920x1200

I'd say a bigger percent of the monitors in the price range i'm looking at are 1080p and not 1200.

I'll probably be about 1m away from the screen roughly. What was the problem exactly, just the screen being to small?

Seems like were on the same boat i've been searching for awhile for my PS3 and just when I think i have settled on one I think just check one more review and it will make me second guess. Been looking at LG w2442pa, couple of samsungs, an iiyama and then a BenQ g2420HD and just cant decide.

BenQ G2420HD Widescreen Monitor 24.0 inch (1080i/1080p) TFT LCD 1000:1 300cd/m2 (1920 x 1080) 5ms D-sub/DVI-D/ HDMI 1.3/Headphone Jack (Glossy Black)

superb monitor for the money.

can be had for £150 with free delivery but cant link as it is a competitor.

had this monitor for 2 week's now and have it mounted on the wall and i am very pleased with the overall picture.

well worth a look.
