Looking to get away in March next year for a very short city break. We'll only have 24-48 hrs in this place, depending on flight times.

Criteria:
- Relatively cheap (<£250 for flights and 1 or 2 nights in a 3/4* hotel for 2 people)
- Must be able to see/do the majority of things in this time period (don't want to be in the position where we have to go back to see the other 50% of things we missed).

Cannot be the following:
- UK
- France
- Spain
- Italy
- Budapest
- Krakow

Where would you go?

What a very odd request? Surely you're tied by budget rather than time no? And why not those countries?? Are you a wanted criminal? Anyhoo... Porto, Lisbon, Marrakech, Prague?

Seeing any city in its entirety in 48hrs is going to be impossible...

Amsterdam
Brugge
Dublin
Copenhagen

I don't know where you're starting from, but for such a short time try to spend the minimum amount of time travelling.

It seems a bit short of a trip really, I'd aim for 48-72 hours in the place really. But that said, Mr and my partner spent maybe 2-2.5 days in Berlin and loved it. We mostly explored food stuff as she's vegan, but we did evenings with friends in local bars and one day checking out a city bus tour thing, plus several historical sites (Berlin wall, memorials, etc).

We've got a 1 year old and won't be taking him with us (for the first time) hence us not wanting to be away for long.

Reason for the locations I've listed is that we've visited a few cities in those countries and fancy something different.

I realise that time will be tight, that's why I'm thinking of perhaps somewhere smaller would be more appropriate; I could probably see all of Norwich in a day, not so much with London/Paris for example.

You’re approaching this from the wrong angle. What’s your closest airport? You need to pick somewhere that flies from your airport direct, and is cheap. Use Skyscanner and type in ‘everywhere’ as your destination and then pick.
Any place will be good for 24 hours!

However I’d recommend Copenhagen (boat tour, walk round the old town, visit the harbour area, go to some galleries, end the evening in the amusement park, nice breakfast in the morning).
Bruges (boat tour, visit the churches, do a brewery tour, bar hop trying different beer).
I do like a boat tour...

Did something similar in November. Paris for one night for a concert. On the second day before going home we managed to see the eiffel tower, notre dame, bastille place. Not loads but it can be done.

London Stansted or Gatwick are both easily accessible. Southampton is closer but is way more restrictive and expensive.

Bruges is a good shout. Tallinn and Copenhagen were also on my radar as well, as was Riga.

I think Prague is worth a bit more time.

Never heard of Ljubljana and didn't consider Geneva or Sofia so will look into those. Amsterdam was a consideration but it doesn't really appeal to me; not sure why.

Thanks for all the suggestions folks

Ljubljana is a beautiful little city, great bars and restaurants, but Slovenia uses the euro, and the pound is still tanking against that currency, since the great misguided British public, IMO, voted to quit the E.U.
While they’re still using the złoty, check out Poland, Warsaw, Kraków, and Poznan are all interesting, or go for Prague, Pilsen, or Brno, in the Czech Republic, I think their currency is the Czech Crown.
