Hey guys,

OK, 1st off, I am a big style old-school CRT lover. (see sig). I would need an LCD with >1600 x 1200 and 85 Hz (11.8ms) to upgrade my display.

Having just seen the Acer in OcUK's TWO, I was amazed at the quoted 6ms response time.

Have LCDs really got this good so fast? Or is this a 6ms nudge nudge ;) ;) 6ms manufaturer's response time?

Thanks!

well response times are often exagerated but can give an indication of the screens performance compared with other similar panels. BeHardware did a review of the Acer 2416W here which should help. It's a very good screen, and responsiveness is pretty good too :)

Personally I would avoid the 24" PVA based lcds (ACER, DELL, SAMSUNG) if your going to use it for gaming, they all have reports of what is generally called input lag.

Most of the 20" WS LCDs are pretty good, the new NEC has been getting good reports although it is pricey for a 20" monitor.

So what would be the sweet spot for a gaming W/S screen to go with a 7900GT. I'm on a 19" 4:3 TFT at the moment and fancy widescreen and maybe a step up in size. I figure 20" would give me a picture that's wider but possibly actulaly smaller vertically.

So I'm left with 24", although someone mentioned 23" screens could be actualy spot on...

I'll be doing the upgrade sometime in the autumn so I guess I have some time to wait and see what happens - anything interesting planned to come out in 2006 around that size?

remember though that ther vertical resolution on a 20"WS is still more than on a 19" screen being 1050 as opposed to 1024 :)

Damn, does that mean the Samsung 244/245T wouldn't be a good choice for gaming? I was looking forward to one of those screens after reading a couple of rave reviews. :(

Tried the 2405 but it doesn't cut it for me, unfortunately....Good for gaming but the gradient banding on that display is horrible, which is why I was looking forward to the 8 bit Samsung panel.

well after lots of deliberating i have put an order in for a SM244T i tell you what it's like when it's up and running

Play some games and give us the low down, it looks great. I like Samsung more than Dell. So if you can confirm it is the shizzle for games I am interested.

already have play a few rouge trooper (heavy 3d loads of blow up ect )

cod2 can not see any ghosting super quick

c&c generals (stratagey game above view )

stalin subway (another fast moving heavy 3d game )

i have played all to no affect of ghosting slugyness or jerking is realy is a great screen

Had my eye on this monitor and its predecessor for a long time now, just got to save the ££, convince the wife and maybe wait for the next model with HDMI / hd support and I will be very :D and super
