I'm looking to replace my ageing Samsung monitor with a new 24" one.

I've been looking at a few of the Asus monitors, particularly the VE247H. Is this a good buy, or are there others I should be looking at?

I will primarily use the monitor for photo editing and watching films. Does anyone here have any recent experience of the Asus monitor, as the reviews on OCUK are a bit old.

does IPS make that much difference? The Asus still has a higher contrast ratio, faster response time and higher brightness. Only thing the iiyama has going for it is the trick stand as far as i can see

Both have claimed 1000:1 contrast ratio, ignore the lying dynamic ratio garbage. Brightness isn't a selling point above 160 or so unless you sit somewhere REALLY bright. Response times of TN are generally better, though you'd have to look at a review to see if it is a significant difference or not as the quoted figure can be misleading, however I'd fully expect it to beat the IPS panel.

IPS will win on viewing angles and colours.

Personally for that money and size I'd aim for a Dell P2414H though it's not available from OCUK. Unless you're a pro FPS player in which case you'll be wanting a higher frequency anyway.

It is, but over budget!

iiyama Prolite XU2390 seems a good price, IPS, thin bezel.

Depends what you're after. For photo editing the IPS will help I'm sure, indeed for films too since the colours tend be better.

Oh, they finally got it in. Requested it months ago but was told there was no interest in it. Yeah I'd not spend that much on it to be honest, good though it is. And yeah, for the intended uses IPS really seems the way to go.

I've gone for the iiyama Prolite XU2390, didn't fancy spending the extra £25 for the one with the trick stand. Will let you know how I get on with it.

the 25 quid is for the height adjustable stand
as someone who uses a monitor without a height adjustable stand, i'd wish i'd gotten one with height adjustment...i've resorted to using 2 thick books to place my monitor at eye level lol

I've had a non-adjustable monitor for...ever since I've been using a PC, no issues for me so far so I'm not too fussed tbh.

If your doing photo editing you really want a well calibrated IPS for the color accuracy.

There is a company(Not OCUK unfortunately) selling the Dell p2414h for £89 without stand with 1 year warranty. You can get a fully adjustable stand for £20. Giving you a great monitor for £109. Unfortunately is it doesn't come with the fantastic 3 year dell warranty but I personally don't think thats worth the extra £65. You can find it using google shopping. Even though its only 1 year, they supposedly have very good customer service.
Here are 2 great reviews of this monitor:
TFT Central
PC Monitors

If you stretched your budget a little bit you could even get two 21.5" Dell p2214h monitors from the same company for £66 each with a £30 duel monitor stand available from the rainforest. Thats £162 for 2 fantastic monitors. I'm told they should be in stock again later this week, but they sell out fast!
If they have excessive backlight bleed or dead pixels you can always use the distance selling regulations to send them back to them and they will pay the postage :D

There are also a few expired postings of this offer on HotDealsUk with some useful feedback if your interested.

EDIT: Somehow missed that you have already bought a monitor, maybe someone else will find this post useful anyway
