Hi guys,

I'm living in a fairly large dorm room and hoping to buy a new monitor to play my playstation 3 on. I've seen a lot of suggestions and found it all a bit confusing. Only other use other than the PS3 is I'll get a cable to run from my macbook to show movies on, it won't see normal monitor use.

So far I've torn between the Samsung P2450H and the BenQ EW2420 (and maybe the LG W2442PE? I'd like the monitor to passthrough audio so I can use a HDMI cable and run my speakers through the audio out 3.5mm jack.

The samsung seems a little expensive for what it is, since it's the same as the other 24" on offer but just the popular model - the Benq is curious since it has nicer viewing angles and colours but.. a bit nervous about the ghosting. My previous monitor was a Dell 2407wfp which wasn't the fastest either, anyone had any experience with them both?

Anyone been in a similar situation and can give me some advice please?

Cheers!

If it's pureley for Console gaming and movies, it might well be worth just getting an lcd tv.. it will be bigger for the money, and arguably better for movies, plus your multi player games won't require crowding around a 24" monitor.

I had thought of that but I was hoping to spend less than £200 really - that and I don't think i have room for a 32"+

What connection does your mac use? Is it display port? In which case you would want a monitor with a display port input which they dont all have (I am not sure of this, never been a mac user - but worth checking out)

It's display port but i've seen a Minidisplay port to HDMI / DVI so that should be easy enough I think :) Really need to decide.. I guess the benq's out and it's not on special anymore anyway.

Have you looked at the Samsung Digital TV Monitors - computer monitors with TV tuners and speakers built in.

I used to have a 19" one and it was brilliant for the price. Clear picture for PC and TV and good sound. Just had a very quick look and there seems to be a P2470 and FX2490HD for 24". (Samsung link)

if you are getting a monitor to use a ps3 on make sure its only 1080p not 1200 because of the trimming down on the top and bottom of the screen

I purchased the Samsung P2450H and I am very happy with it so fare, go it hooked it up to PS3 via HDMI and audio 3.5mm jack to my speakers looks crisp as long as you are not sitting to close to it I would recommend it.

For your uses I would certainly recommend the Samsung P2450H.

Its a nice quality monitor (for a TN) and handles fast moving content very well. It has a HMDI input (with audio pass through to either 3.5mm stereo or optical) - so that will be great for the PS3 and the DVI-D port will be ideal for the Macbook with an adapter (I believe you can get a nice one from apple).

It's also on offer this week - so you can get it for £180 from OCUK. Post 39 more times and you get free shipping (though please don't spam).
