I'm looking at adding a 3rd monitor to my setup (currently have 2 1920x1200 24" monitors). Will be using this for software dev, general desktop use and some gaming (have an AMD 7990, so looking at Eyefinity for some of the games).
I also have a wall mounted TV above my desk, so have made some measurements and it looks like I would not be able to fit a 27" monitor as it would overlap the bottom of the TV screen, so 24" is the biggest I can currently fit :(

My initial thought is to get another 1920x1200, with both Asus and Dell offering good monitors (looking for IPS or equivalent), however from what I can tell the options available are all a few years old - do any companies have any new 1920x1200 monitors on the horizon? I'm guessing the answer is no since the focus now seems to be on the 16:9 options, I'm getting the impression that 16:10 is a dead ratio :(

Had considered Dell's 24" UP2414Q UHD monitor, looks nice and the high res would be good for software dev, however from what I have seen the reviews for it are fairly average. So think I might be better off waiting for the 2nd generation of this monitor.

As I might get a UHD screen when the next geration of them come around, I don't want to spend too much just now (my oldest monitor is one of the OCuk DGM VA panels from 2007 (I think) and that appears to be starting to struggle now, with some obvious ghosting that didn't used to be there, suspect this may not have much more life left in it!), so my options appear to be one of these two:

Asus VS24AHL 24.1" Widescreen Professional/Gaming LED Monitor - Black

Dell UltraSharp U2412M 24" Widescreen LED Monitor - Midnight Grey

or are there any other options I've not considered?

Well, I was about to suggest the Asus, but it seems you already had that in your list. It even has pivot, so you can switch it into portrait orientation, if needed.

As for 16:10 and its future:
16:10 ratio usually brings a price premium, which in turn makes the market quite a lot smaller when compared to 16:9 monitors. 16:10 has been "dying" for many years, but there are still die-hard fans that won't let go of it. Furthermore, for desktop and work related stuff the extra vertical resolution is indeed very welcome.

Have a look at the BenQ BL2411PT. I picked one up about a month ago and it does exactly what it says on the tin.

IPS, 24", 16:10, 1920 x 1200, Height-adjust, tilt, swivel stand, matte screen (not glossy), 3 year warranty. The panel itself has low moving image persistence for a 60hz monitor which makes it more than adequate for gaming if you want that too.

The Dell U2412M is a fine monitor as well, I wouldn't be upset with that either.

That BenQ monitor does look pretty good :)

Also found the AOC I2460PXQU, which seems to be the same panel as the BenQ one, so probably better getting the BenQ one (think that has better warranty anyway)

now I have 3 to choose from, going to be a tough choice!

thanks

I have an Asus pa248q that is 1920x1200 I think it's still available and is very nice.
In fact if u were interested in second hand I am looking to upsize to 1440p so would possibly sell.

That monitor looks nice, though is a little more than I think I want to spend on a 1200p monitor just now. thanks anyway :)

Nice one mate, only ever heard good things about the Dell's. I'm also considering getting a trio of Dells for my eyefinity setup. Where the pictures of your new monitor then?
