Hi Guys,

I recently bought a 26" Samsung LCD TV, Ive owned it a fortnight and am now selling it. Dont get me wrong, as a TV its great as well as for Xbox 360 but as a PC display I really miss the higher resolutions. Running at 1368 x 768 is killing me, Im not used to it. I sold my 19" widescreen monitor which was 1440 x 900, I though 1360 x 769 wouldnt be too different, how wrong I was!

Instead Im planning on buying a 24" monitor, maybe the Dell 2407. So then, just want to check some things so Im clear;

1) 1920 x 1200 resolution, what would an Xbox 360 or PS3 display like via VGA? Would it be badly stretched? I keep hearing about 1:1 mapping, is this possible on the Dell and what does it do in laymans terms?

1a) I know on my 1440 x 900 19" display that the Xbox 360 would display nicely, but would slight stretch circular images into a more oval shape...would that be even more pronounced with a 1920 x 1200?

2) Im only running a 7900GT card, I understand I may not be able to run all settings maxed but if I so wished, could I select a lower resolution and the monitor would still display an acceptable level of quality even so its not running in native res?

3) If I instead go for a 22" monitor with 1680x1050 resolution, does that mean I cant run 1080 HD signals in the future either via games console or even BlueRay discs when we see affordable PC drives released?

I know the questions probably sound idiotic, I just want to be clear on what Im buying thats all. Ive already made the mistake with buying the TV to be honest!!

From what limited knowledge i do have ill try and answer some of your q's:

1. via vga the xbox 360 will display at full 1080p res, some people report getting better picture with component but the majority say the vga is better

1a. i currently play my 360 on my 20.1" widescreen at 720p res and tbh it runs perfectly fine, the colours are sharper and more vibrant compared to my sd tv, the majority of people report good results using the dell 2407 with their 360

2. Yes? (please someone correct me if im wrong)

3. You will still be able to run 1080p signals but 15 pixels on either side will be chopped off.. i can show u a screenie if u want?

Thanks for your help mate, sounding good so far, would really appreciate a screen of the chop off its not too much trouble? :)

Screen 1: dragged window so left hand side of movie showing.. notice how right hand side is chopped

Screen 2: dragged window other way round (wont fit)

Screen 3: tried in middle but inevitably your going to miss those 15 pixels on either side (1080 - 1050 =?)

edit: how much your wanting for the samsung? a competitor is selling them at £399 delivered, i think im gonna buy both the dell 2407 (pc + 360) and a samsung 26" hd (360 + tv) - my bday coming up :p

Thanks a lot for those screens, its not a bad as I first imagined it would be actually! Definitely something to consider instead of forking out for a 24"

You'll find my Samsung on an auction site right now, feel free to email me; ihutchinson AT ntlworld DOT COM

From my name on the email you should recognise the username on the "auction site"

To be honest with it been pretty much brand new Id be looking to regain most of the cost, but if your wanting to save £xx we can chat :)
