Hi

Looking for a good 24" (or 23.6) monitor.
Will be used for graphic work so need good colours but also like to play FPS so something with minimal ghosting would be great.

I was looking at this 24" Dell U2412M Widescreen LED, IPS Panel Monitor but after reading a couple of reviews it seems that the good colour reproduction comes at the cost of ghosting in games. Was also attractive because of the 1920x1200 resolution.

Looking to spend £230 tops, any recommendations or tips would be much appreciated :D

If ghosting is your primary concern, you'll want a BenQ 2420T or similar monitor (Asus, Samsung). No IPS panel can realistically eliminate ghosting as well as a good 120hz monitor, but you will typically sacrifice some performance elsewhere (contrast, colours and viewing angles usually).

But if fast paced FPS games are going to be the primary application, 120hz is a no-brainer. It does give you a competitive edge due to the lower input lag and pixel-response times, I noticed it myself when switching between a plasma TV and a 120hz monitor. It works especially well at 120FPS, but even if you're only hitting the 60FPS mark, you will notice things are still "snappier" and more connected, which you won't get on any other display besides an old 120hz CRT.

not gonna be turning pro any time soon but deff my preferred style of gaming.
Will be using it for photoshop and the like too though to maybe something thats just gaming focused like the BenQ might be unsuitable. 120hz gaming does sound very tempting though....

i tested 120hz monitors, but i still went back to the U2412, the colours are so much better.

yes, the 120hz fluidity is noticeable even at 80fps, but still, i couldn't bear to look at the colours :)

my primary use of the computer are games (BF3, diablo3, upcoming guild wars 2, max payne 3, etc.)

if you're not in the competitive gaming biz, the "ghosting" shouldn't be of any concern to you.

i'm currently running 2x U2412M on my desk and i think it's the best all round monitor for daily use i have ever had (and i had a fair amount of them) :)
