Hi guys,

im currently in the process of building my new computer and would like a nice new monitor to finish it off and to replace my current pc screen ( 32" tv)

only thing is im on a bit of a budget, i have read the various reviews on the products overclockers stock but would like some suggestions from you guys.

i dont really know what to look for in a monitor. i intend to use it mainly for playing games, maybe watch a few films and browse the internet ( not that, that should make a difference to choice)

any help would be great. my budget is around 150-160 if possible i would like to add a second monitor in the future if its worth it. or should i just stick with one monitor, maybe get a bigger single monitor? if i should stick to a single monitor i may be able to increase my budget a bit.

thanks

rob

As already said 24" id stick with 1080p, however if you move up to 27" or higher id opt for1440p which would certainly be outside your price range.

For gaming TN panels are the preference due to response times, IPS tend to have better viewing angles and colours........Bottom line is you can have crap IPS and crap TN monitors so you really need to check out review sites for people that have actually seen these monitors up close and played with them.

Mynight suggested a asus monitor, who do make some good gaming monitors (and general ones) It has a good response rate. However I do vaguely remember some issues with early VE series monitors....but that may all of been sorted a long time ago.

TFTcentral tends to have some good reviews, when you've narrowed down some options Id have a look there.

Sorry I cant link anything at the minute as I am at work.

I think that sums it up perfectly :)

Only reason I'd avoid a ips at that price range is they tend to have 8ms+g2g times. Also noticed backlight bleed and blacks glowing a lot more on the cheaper end of ips.

TN panels are really the best for gaming in my opinion. Until ips comes down in price theres no contest at this price :)

If you go for a bigger monitor I advise getting a 1440p for 24" 1080p will be fine :)

Stick with a tn panel to get better refresh rates for your money for gaming.

Maybe this;

A friend has one and I can't fault it. Especially for the money.

i think i may go for this one, 1080p is fine for me, would love to go for a bigger screen and jump to 1440p but just to far out of my price range.
